I'm not a gamer and this is the first golf game I've ever played.
The tours keep me playing. It's a very good game of course, but without the tours I'd certainly play it less.

For all the above mentioned reasons, I've been hooked on golf games since my C64 as well. But a few others to mention...
1. TimWilsonUK's Meet The Creator interview with Dr. Yeti. Hoodoo Hills for the impulse purchase. 2. Bryan, the encouragement when I was ready to quit. 3. The emotional rollercoaster and seeing your game improve...albeit slowly.

It was this site that got my interest. Like others have said, played all the old golf games, microprose, Tiger woods etc but the last TW game took the whatsit completely. Played it twice and sold it. I saw the reviews for this game and they were not very good, but someone on Amazon mentioned this site and I had a look and signed up 2 days later. Then came the famous 120 over Q school fiasco, but that just made me more determined to get better. For me, the main reason I play is this site. The game is great, but without TGC tours, I just wonder if I would have shelved it. It's saved me a fortune as I have hardly bought any games since last Christmas when I discovered this game. To be fair though I love this game as it's the most realistic golf game I have played. I wanted a challenge and something near to the real thing as this game is as good as it gets. Still happy playing TGC 1 to be honest and in no rush for the new game. The courses that are created for the tournaments are absolutely mind blowing. I don't have a clue how to build a course, so really appreciate the effort that must go into it! Made some good friends too, never met them, but they seem jolly nice people! It's been great fun coming up from CC E with Giraffe72 and digsb and a few others. I always look out for the players that were in the same tier as me and that all adds to the fun. Just hope it all keeps going as I don't see me packing in anytime soon.

Apart from the abundance of honeys that comes with being on the euro tour. It's the camaraderie, this site has given a nice golf game a pretty long shelf life.
Then there is the competition,I practice to get better, I read threads to get better I watch streams to get better. Then I whinge and moan at Bill and Jamie when I play badly and then I feel better. No other game comes close to the feeling of not wanting to let my comrades down.

Are they for PGA/Euro players only? If that would be the case, Irving himself would have never seen one of them. Sums it up pretty well for me too.

That is bad, even by my standards. And now here he is, sandbagging in the Web! My +112 in Q-School is now sitting on a Web exemption and it's all been inspired by Bill Chief. Well, a little bit inspired by Bill Chief.

Above all else, for me, it was the GNCD.
Played my fair share of golf games, including the EA Sports golf series pre-Tiger. Hot Shots Golf Fore was my guilty pleasure on the PS2, and played a few others along the way, but always wanted to sink my teeth into the design portion of video golf. Never really was able to fully wrap my head around the TW Course Architect (still have it and TW 04 on my old laptop) and once EA axed the architect I kind of gave up hope on virtual course design. A few start-ups teased it (Pro Stroke Golf and Custom Play Golf come to mind) but were never really able to deliver or get off the ground.
Can't even remember where I first heard about it, but stumbled upon The Golf Club fairly early in the going. Liked where it was heading. Didn't like that its spec were out of the range of what I had at home for a PC, so kind of gave up on it for a bit. Then came the word they were coming to console. I'm like, "OK, I've got to get this." Main reason I bought the PS4 was this game and, almost a year and half later, it's still the game I play most often.
The GNCD was beyond my wildest dreams. When I first got the game, I figured if I could put out something that at least resembled a golf course, I could enjoy it and that would be that. The first couple of attempts were pretty rough (never released them but still have them on my system as a reminder), but soon I got to the point where I could see something in my mind and be able to execute it on the screen. Never got to that point with any other designer.
The acutal golf was secondary but, for laughs, figured I'd give TGCT a whirl around the first of this year. Played Q-School and, only thanks to an ace late in the final round, managed to earn my web.com card on the number. Struggled mightily to make a cut at first, but as the year progressed and I learned a few nuances about playing the game, I was able to make cuts on a consistent basis. Never a threat to win, but at least was cashing a steady (virtual) paycheck. Have graduated to Euro and again, am at least finding away to top-40 may way to decency.
Meanwhile, did my first design contest over at HB, really pushed me in my design game. Laurel Run came of that. Was so happy with how it turned out, I saw @griff's post regarding the CC Summer Showdown, I'm like OK, let's do this. Thus, East Course at Noelle Valley was born. Never thought I'd have the chops to design with the likes of drivert & Crazy, but that course held its own against those two, which I was/am mighty proud of. Let Griff twist my arm again and am about to deliver a third offering that I hope is better than the last two. Feel very fortunate that I'm batting 1.000 (2 for 2) in TGCT submitted course being selected for tour am looking to keep that streak going while doing well in the Invicta contest.
Without TGCT, I'd probably still play the game because I do enjoy the architecture side of golf, so I'd probably fiddle in the GNCD if nothing else. But TGCT gave The Golf Club the true season mode it lacked ... and a true multi-player season mode to boot. I may never be Ian Sweeney, but it's nice to know I can shoot within a stroke or two of him for 18 holes if the moon aligns just so. Also, without TGCT and the community here, I probably wouldn't have pushed myself in the designer as much as I have to get better and turn out some courses that hopefully you all enjoy.
All of this is a very long-winded way of saying: GNCD is what drew me to the game and is still my favorite part, but TGCT has enriched the experience beyond my wildest expectations and made The Golf Club my favorite golf game of all time.

But I agree with you, I am happy to see you, digs, Griz, and even boffo who is always good for a laugh making it up to the Pro level tours. There are a couple of other notable ones that I am having trouble remembering right now (happens at my age). I also agree with you that I am in no hurry for TGC2. I feel I have not done nearly everything I wanted to do in this game yet. Hoping I can stop sucking eggs in PGA and actually be competitive before the switch over. But realistically, I do not see the switch happening until close to the end of season 3. Figuring the release will probably be delayed until summer. And then there has to be a bit of a wait time while people learn it and the guys/gals at TGCTours can figure out how to set the whole shebang up in that game...

And even boffo? What's that supposed to mean? I'm probably offended.

And even boffo? What's that supposed to mean? I'm probably offended. I knew you would get a kick out of that. But I remember us when I was in CC-C and I think you were in CC-E musing over practicing the CC courses with Jim (PP31). Seems like forever ago...what was that...July or August?... and you are on exemption to Web now, and I got lucky and made it to PGA... Who'd of thunk it?

I spent April and May in E, June bouncing from D to C and back to D, July in D, and August in C. I never thought I'd get a chance at Web but you seemed like a safe pick for the kind of advancement you've had.

I was drawn in because I always loved golf games but with Everybodys golf retired (new one on the way soon I hope) and TW just been a pile of shite that costs a bomb i needed something new. Seen this on sale and It was so good Greg Norman put his name on it @!$# it €15 worth a shot. The Designer although I was producing just fugly courses was good crack with nantez88 and feng187 sligging records but the only reason we are still playing is TGCT even with there anti-Irish stance I admire the work and effort the lads put in for nothing zip zero. Hell they're stubborn as a mule on Valium at times but that's there prerogative.

I'll have to admit TGCTours is what keeps me playing this game, I'm good on my day but not consistent enough over 4 rounds to keep up with the big boys but I enjoy the competition none the less and the community here is fantastic. Thanks to the guys who mentioned leaderboard golf on the C64 and Spectrum, ah the nostalgia of it all Oh btw Moe Slorkman you mustn't have read the Blazing saddles clause in the rules and regulations from the lads, I think this video pretty much explains it
