I searched the forum a bit before posting, but don't see too much about settings optimization and such. I notice the default settings in-game are low for tree distance and all and there was horrible pop-in. It's mostly fixed now (bumped tree detail distance from ~345 to 800+ and forced MSAA with MFAA in my Nvidia panel).
But I'm just wondering, if I have a moderately high spec system (GTX 970, i5 4690k) what are ideal settings for total tree count, distance, object detail, and so on? Would like the game to be as pretty as possible without introducing problems or lowering framerate terribly.
I've read the object detail setting in particular is weird, and runs terribly on pretty much all systems when maxed out, but can anybody give me a breakdown? It's been hard to find guides or info on this game unfortunately due to the name ("The Golf Club" comes up with all kinds of non-related stuff when searching google).
Edit - Apparently didn't search hard enough, lots of people asking similar questions now that I dig in a bit. My bad.

what settings did you end up with for optimal visuals without lag?

If tree distance is in yards isn't 800 yards a long way and a bit overkill, this game is very demanding on some course even for my GTX 1080 on 1440 Another thing is tree count, how many trees are we gonna see on a hole, you don't need to bump this up too high imo Object detail the highest setting makes the game look fantastic, huge difference between setting 1-5 runs great on my system on 5

what settings did you end up with for optimal visuals without lag? I'm not at the PC now, but IIRC I've got it at 1440p resolution and settings high outside the game. In-game, I think it's 500-600 high detail trees and a distance in the low 900s. Seems to be ideal for cutting the pop-in stuff and keeping things pretty without dragging the game down. I've also got AA turned off in-game, but forced in Nvidia control panel at 4x AA (with MFAA for 8x) and 16x AF.

Also, maybe 800-900 yards is long for tree distance, but I still saw trees popping in until I increased it. Could be a settings readjustment is needed, but who knows. The settings in this game seem to behave oddly.
