OK, I'm seriously thinking I need to get a PC just to do design work because it's really a pain to do it on PS4. Those of you who have PC vs. PS4/XB...is it worth it design wise to get a PC to do course design? I really don't need a PC for anything else.
Is it worth the few hundred bucks to get a PC machine to use for design work?

Only you can answer that. We do not know:
- your financial situation - how much you enjoy designing - how much time you plan on spending designing - whether you have other needs besides a new PC - whether you would rather spend your money elsewhere
among other things.
Personally, I would like a new PC myself that has a better graphics card than the one I already have, but $1,000 is out of my budget (a laptop is a must). I would like a PS4 so I could play online with my brother, but $350 is better spent elsewhere. And how much would either of those improve my overall experience? 10%? 20%?
I don't know how to answer this question for you. Your situation could be radically different.
All I can say is that, despite a very underpowered PC, my GNCD doesn't crash.

Assume the cost is not an issue. I'm just wondering designing on PC vs. PS4 if it's significant enough of a difference in ease that it's worth the move. Will it save time on designing vs. console? Etc.

I find the designer to be a Royal pain in the ass and not user friendly at all for a beginner. SO my answer would be no

Etc. If money isn't am issue I would definetly say yes, yes, yes... YES. While my play hasn't improved the slightest, the responsiveness of the designer and the added draw distance on PC just makes it so much better. I know you enjoy designing and again. If money is no issue then go for it. Tgc and the designer might be a reason to do the leap, but I'm guessing you and your boys will use that rig for other games or find other uses for it in the long run.

I also bought a new PC less than two weeks ago.. I am Lovin' it.. It was a pretty penny but worth it to me.. The graphics are incredible and the designer is smooth as silk.. The only thing I am having trouble with is my flop shots aren't as accurate.. On PS4, I was deadly with 10-20 yard floppers.. Now I struggle to get them close.. Guess I need to hit more greens.. My only advice is to get the most you can afford.. I went into this planning on dropping 1K and dang near dropped 2K.. But what the hell... You only live once.. Good luck with your choice..

I got one of those as well and put it in my ancient system (q9550 on a mobo from 2007) and it still doubled my fps at the same settings. I keep holding off a full upgrade but I should!

I tried the course designer on pc the other day. I was useless at it on ps4 and I'm just as useless on pc. didn't seem to be any difference
shame because I would really love to recreate my local course and play that in the game

When it comes to graphics, the consoles cannot compete against a decent PC and a even a mediocre GPU.
I'm not sure if the mouse will be a better interface to create a course, perhaps a tablet would be better, but even then if a controller is better for the actual creation you can get one that works on the PC.
I do believe that you will be able to see and customize things with the PC to a higher degree of accuracy and more visually appealing detail that you might not have seen on a console.
The question is how much do you want to spend just to create courses? Would you use the PC for anything else? Those answers are only something that you can answer, but if you want help getting a basic configuration for just Golf I can help you with that.

Isn't being able to have me on your friends list reason enough?
Come on Irving!

I'm going to be making the jump shortly. Knowing how frustrating Irving has indicated he finds planting on PS4 (If I couldn't do fast multiple clicks to plant lots at once I wouldn't plant a thing)... That will be where the biggest benefit will be I think. That and placing things in general. As others have said, it also opens up Steam to you and your boys. There are lots of games on there so you may find it gets used other than a dedicated TGC machine I've been weighing up the many options on components. In terms of graphics cards I was waiting for the new GeForce 1060 graphics cards, but if not fussed about VR there doesn't seem to be much between a 1060 and 970. Except the price difference is pretty big with some good deals on the 970 and most of the 1060 cards being more than Nvidia were making out they'd be. I want good value for money and also want something decent. So looks like that will be the route I take. I believe a lot of folk here have the 970? I assume you'd recommend it? Not just for TGC but in general? When it comes it will be a massive distraction so waiting until next weekend once I have my CC course done and dusted. In all likelihood the market and the build I've selected will have likely changed by them I'm sure

by the way, you don't have to spend a fortune tp have a pc that is more than good enough for modern games and TGC
I built mine and it cost me around £200
i7 2600 gtx 660ti 8gb ddr3 Ram Asus P8P67 PRO Motherbaord Acer x223w monitor
not the best pc by all means and certain parts will need upgrading next year but it plays the latest games and it's quick. Just shop around

An extra tuppence;
The 660ti still shifts a few pixels despite its age. Very good budget card.
IMHO best bang for buck right now is the 780ti - they can be got for well under $200 and can still frighten a Titan.
The new 10x range might be a bit overkill if it's *only* for TGC.
