Given recent events, it feels natural people would start looking at certain things more closely. There are a lot of ways someone can probably look to 'game' the system. You raised the issue of having this game on three platforms. I agree that seems odd, and people have responded with some legitimate rationale why. But I'm sure some out there use it as an advantage for tournaments. There is also the well documented and overly discussed ghost ball usage. And honestly, I think something that happens more than we think is people playing rounds live together and comparing club choice, loft amount, landing spots, etc. Given that you'll almost always be a few yards difference off the tee, seems like a big advantage to talk through an approach live with another player. It might affect the outcome by a few strokes, but you still have to make the shots and hit the putts to do well. But, those few shots could be a big deal if it is the difference is making the cut or not, making a top 5 or a win. I think I've been more trusting in my fellow competitor until recently. Kinda shocked at the length people will go to try and win here (or in stoomboom's case, just participate). I bet if you told people "Hit this button 3 times and say the magic word, and you'll take 5 strokes off your total score without anyone ever finding out" it would be surprising how many people tried it. I'm not going to lose sleep over it though. I have nothing riding on any of this except my own desire to do well. But I am middle of the pack average, so my goals are different. I'd hate to be a new person joining this site about now. And if they happen to qualify for a top tour right out of Q-School....lots of stink eye probably coming their way

I see what you're saying, but I think we need to be really careful about being openly suspicious of players who start doing well (as was mentioned in that other thread), own more than one version, or for any other reason. I have a friend on here who has a close relative who is also pretty good at this game, but despite clearing it with the admins they don't want to play for fear of the accusations that might get bandied about. I think that's a bit sad, do we really want to be creating that sort of atmosphere? Why let a few bad apples spoil it for everybody else? Although if I see a new player called MoobMoob start tearing the place up I might ask a few questions...
Anyway who are these people with so much spare time on their hands they can choose to use it mapping ghosts on all three platforms and/or replaying all their shots until they get it right?! I barely have time to play the rounds I've committed to! If there really are people who go to all that trouble to win pretend money in a computer game then to be honest I feel more sympathy for them then hatred. What sad, pathetic lives they must lead.
Point is, the overwhelming majority of people playing on this site are good people, the community is awesome and gives as much back as it takes, and I'm not going to let a few honourless pathetic people spoil my fun. Boom/Steve/Moob is bang to rights and gone, for the sake of continuing to attract new players (which is what is going to keep all this going, in the long run) we need to move past all this and get back to enjoying this brilliant game and site.

Fun fact though. Well. Maybe not fun but still. I put myself on a break from the tour as I didn't enjoy it as much as I used to and it's summer so I got other things to do. However 2 nights ago I decided to play the tour just for kicks. No harm in that right?
Well I did. No intention to post scores and I won't for next week either, but as I am new to pc I looked at the leaderboard and I didn't recognize a single user name except for kuo, dendini and wags. Nothing odd about that since it's my first time playing. But the only thought I had was. "Boy. Wonder how many of these play just to practice the wind?"
Now to be clear. I didn't see anything fishy, but I sure didn't use to think like that before.

I am fairly certain IP addresses are supplied by HB's API and so TGCTours can see if 2 different players, even on different platforms, are in the same location.

Certain people seem to focus on potential cheaters a little too much. Makes you wonder if they're looking for ways to cheat. I might just change my name and come on the podcast :-) I would advise deleting your feng187 account aswell ! that looks awful dodgy and come on Fergus is a Scottish name not Irish you should know better

I'm a 3 timer and here is how it became that way.
5 years or so ago I decided to get into gaming and bought a PS3. Mainly for Gran Turismo 5. Racing was my genre at the time. GT6 came out and it sucked. Also played a little bit of Tiger 14.
So I got an Xbox 1 in 2014 because I wanted to get into Forza. I had heard about TGC but wasn't sold on it, reviews in the early days were not so good and the videos I saw didn't impress me. Then decided to buy TGC in 2014.
Later on, couple months down the road, the hype for Project Cars was building and everything I had heard PS4 was the console to play it on. So I bought a PS4 in anticipation for the Cars release in 2015. By this time was starting to gravitate more towards TGC so I bought my second copy of the game.
I was lurking around here in late 2014 but never joined, then in January 2015 I signed up here. Played a couple months of tournaments here on PS4.
April 2015 i got sick and wound up retiring. Knowing I was going to need something to pass time while I went through treatments and crap I decided to build a gaming PC, specifically around TGC. Bought my 3'rd copy of the game. Since April 2015 I've played all my tournaments on PC. Have played every tournament (around 160) since joining in 2015 (year and a half) except one due to a death in the family a few months ago.
I've never played a tournament on either console since going PC, not under any name. I've heard how much information the API gives and welcome the admins to check my IP to see if it shows on anything but PC for the tournaments. I know the person I am and my character and not the type to sacrifice who I am just to gain an advantage. The fact that I'm still grinding in CC ever since it was created and before that the Champions Circuit is evidence in itself that I have no unfair advantage over others. I've always adhered to the rules, never gamed the system, (was never a wind waiter, always play all 4 rounds in one sitting) treated people with respect and courtesy and stay out of the drama threads. I just want to play the game honestly, have some fun and enjoy the competition.
Also don't own the DLC on either console so most tournaments I couldn't play anyway. API could probably confirm that too lol. I do/have in the past stalked the leader boards on all systems just to see how I am doing when I'm sitting near the top of our leader board. And to be honest and not to flame the consoles, I can not tolerate the lag, stuttering, screen tearing and over all look of the game on PS4 and X1. Last round I played on PS4 would have been a few months ago after checking the tournament leaderboard I loaded up Little Brook Manor, don't even think I made it all the way through. And think I also did a complete round on Black Brook. But in the end I just can't tolerate it, I've become spoiled with the PC look and performance.
Ghosts, don't play with them. Those who are in CC and have seen any of my posts will have probably read me saying I quit playing with them long ago. My youtube channel of replays can confirm this, most replays are just me and no ghosts. I found they distracted me too much and made me feel like I was always racing to catch up. Every once and a while I will play with one ghost. Usually because when I load up the game the message center will notify me of someone on my friends list just shot xxx on a course and I will go play it as part of my warm up routine. (I have a pretty bad fade/slice that takes time to dial out 1'st thing in the game day). Never play with them in tournament for the stated reasons. Now it's gotten to the point that the top left is too cluttered if I have the ghosts on. I've even adjusted my HUD offset to move everything as close to the edges as possible so I can see more of the course.
In the end here is how I play the game. I get to the tee take my shot, keep hitting the ball until it goes in the hole. The less times I hit it the better. I don't care how others are doing, don't look at the leader board in between holes or rounds and when it's over my score is what I look at. If I land at or near the top, well cool. I would love to get into Web but don't see that happening so I keep grinding it out in CC playing the best I can. I sucked bad this current tournament. Guess I should have played it on one of the consoles 1'st under my "Steve" name or something. Kidding lol

Decided to come on here after hearing about this place on the HB forums. Do loads of you guys play on different platforms, which is the best do you reckon without starting a fanboy war. Never been into PC gaming as I can't afford a good rig.

I play on Xbox and it works just fine. Welcome to the Tours!

I have the game on PS4 and XB1. And if I ever get around to building a gaming PC (thinking about it) I will have it on PC too. How did I come to have it on 2 platforms? Easy...I got it on PS4 first and was struggling with lag and hitting 100% shots, but also slicing a lot. So I bought it on XB1 (since I already had the console) to solve the lag issues, but also hoping I would play better. And if I had I would have stuck with it. But I played a couple RRCC tournaments on XB1 and sucked eggs because of lack of resistance in the thumb stick on XB1 controllers. If I get this on PC it will be because I build a beast of a machine and want the super high res and lack of lag. The end goal is so that I can play better (keeping it real). I will use my stock PS4 controller and the known software to do so...no modifications to the controller or trickery... If I had to cheat to win at this game, then there is no point in playing. Who would I be impressing? Nobody, especially myself... Oh yeah, my gamertag is the same on both PS4 and XB1 in case anyone is wondering and I have both linked in my profile...
As for all this worry about mapping ghost balls. So what??? It is not cheating. If someone has that much desire to win or get better that they spend so much time mapping ghost balls on all 3 platforms to figure out the best way to manage the courses, then I say have at it. I would say they are way too OCD about the game in my opinion (this coming from a guy who probably plays 15 practice rounds on each week's tournament course). But it is not cheating. That is like saying NFL teams should not be able to look at the replays from their competitors' games to figure out how to match up best against the offense/defense.
For the record, I do not use ghost balls other than to figure out on the first approach shot in a round if the greens are slow or fast. Yes, occasionally I will see a ghost hit a great shot using a particular part of a green that I did not think of using that will make me change my approach to a shot (again keeping it real)... I play with the ghosts the game deals me. And if they were turned off tomorrow for tournament play, I would be a happy guy. Because in tournaments they just tend to frustrate me and get me raging if I am not doing well... I like them in practice not so much because I could learn something, but because it gives me a sense of competition in the practice rounds that makes it more fun.
So as for cheating...unlimited mulligans, straight shooter modifications, multiple profiles, etc. are cheating. No matter what anyone does with ghost balls and practicing in multiple formats, twitch, steam/stream whatever...no prob

Do you mean folks from other tours or with other accounts? I can tell you that I tend to see the same names on the leaderboard in the WEB on PC. Kuo is always at the top, I believe he just enjoys playing or maybe he like rubbing it in that he is that good!

What I meant was as I don't know any of the usernames as i am new on pc and because of recent events my mind started thinking like that. Imagining all these users were just alt accounts to practice winds and then play on console. It was just my imagination that went that way. I don't suspect this is how it actually is and I saw nothing suspicious of any sort.

I got the game originally on early access for PC as it was the only option at the time. I had a very poor graphics card, so it wasn't the best to play it on that, but it was still playable and I could tell how good a golf game that this was, despite the bad frame rates. I then actually bought a PS4 just before the proper release, thinking that I'd finally be able to play the game as it should do. It played better than my underpowered PC, but it was still laggy on some courses. So I decided to upgrade my PC to play the game how I originally wanted it to. I play my tournament rounds on PC as I find the graphics and high frame rates more pleasing and it's less busy than PS4, with messages and updates for games etc. So I can concentrate a little more...although lately my concentration hasn't been great With more top players on PS4, you can get a bit distracted by the insane scores if you start watching the leaderboards in tournaments I play the game socially much more on PS4 as I have more friends there. It's easy to get into chat and send messages, images and video clips to each other as you don't need extra hardware or software. If people are going to cheat, they'll always find a way to do it and it's rife throughout gaming. I've never understood the need to cheat at a video game? I wonder what they feel like winning a tournament knowing that they'd cheated? The satisfaction of beating similarly skilled or better skilled players off your own back is immensely satisfying. You're just cheating yourself in the end.
