I have decided to take a sabbatical from the course for a while. No idea if it will be a month, this season, or forever. I enjoy the game, I hate who I am when I try and compete. I can be gracious and friendly on the outside, but inside my play of late really makes me angry. The kind of frustration that is bad for my health and my psyche. I can play well when it does not "matter" (as much as a league centered around a hobby can "matter"), but poorly when it does. I put way too much emotion into my successes and failures. I am hyper competitive, and have played sports all my life so I persevered for the many months not really enjoying the game but wanting to succeed (in however I could measure that). I worry I have become (or will become) a poor role model for my children if I continue to invest so much emotion into the "events" on TGCT.
Needless to say I am seriously frazzled, usually frustrated and even "angry" at the world when I play poorly. This game is not worth that for me. This is not a cry for attention, or a request to persuade me otherwise, it is just how I feel. Why subject myself to the inner turmoil 3x per week. As of this week I will stop entering tournaments for at minimum a month to reassess where I am at. I want to apologize to the xbox match play league for which I have already committed and which is through only part of a season. Hopefully you can find a replacement in my stead.
I do NOT however plan on dropping from the community and expect to do some design work. I find that relaxing and I have made some good friends via these forums. So you will not be rid of me, except on the golf course. As such I plan (unless otherwise told) to captain the US Ryder cup team to victory this fall. I was not going to make it as a player (obviously) so I don't see any conflict with dedicating myself to the Ryder cup team.
Hopefully for most of you this wont change my presence in the community (what little it has dwindled to of late), the only difference is don't expect to see my name below the cut line for a while.

Sounds like your attitude and mental state is a huge reason why you are not getting the results you want. Get a little perspective, this is a computer game, you can still be ultra competitive but not be so intense about it. The second you don't take it so seriously, I'm almost certain you will play better. Good luck. With whatever you end up doing :-)

I did the same a few months ago misternic. Best decision I've made with this game. I decided to come back when it felt like I had put things into a better perspective. I hope the same for you.

I hope the last round of the June Elimination event had anything to do with this... I also hope you get some perspective. I was all good with not advancing and if I did it was a huge bonus. This applies for me in my regular and TST events. My game has declined, so I have adjusted my expectations. I literally had no panic at the U.S. Open when I was -9 thru 33 holes. I birdied the last 3 holes and it looks like -12 may very well be the number to make it in. I would have accepted a MC and all I was concentrating on was my own game. Don't be so hard on yourself. Even if you don't improve, the point here is to enjoy your rounds, and I still do after just over a year.. good, ok, or poor result. We will be glad to have you back if you come back to play again, sir.

And my image above is just supposed to be funny... don't take it the wrong way... Appreciate all that you have done for TGCT and the community!

That's a shame Nic. Try not to take yourself too seriously when you perform below your best, heed the words of Christian Fuchs...No Fuchs Given!
Be good to have you back in a few weeks time once you recharge your batteries fella, if you do decide to do that.

Golf can be frustrating, real world and in the video game world. But in this video game world, it's all a fantasy. It's an alternate universe that WE made up. It's cool one though. Lots of great people hanging around in this fake world. Some of them are really good at this video game too. Most of us, not so much But that isn't important. I used to allow not playing well really get to me. But I realized that I don't participate here for my own desire to win - as much as I'd like to win. I'm here because I enjoy being a part of it, regardless of how small my part is. I'm not the most popular. I'm not the most well-liked. I'm not a great designer. I'm not even that good at the game. But it isn't about me. There isn't anything tangible that can be achieved within the game itself. There aren't any real trophies to take home. No checks to cash. No cars to win. No product endorsements to gain. All we really get is some kind of reputation in an alternate universe. But that reputation isn't built by how well we play. Its built on the relationships and friendships we've established with the real people in this fake world. It's always been about the people and the community to me, even if I do get frustrated with the game from time to time. It's never enough to make me want to blow a gasket. Just like real golf, just accept what has happened and move on to the next shot. Enjoy the break, it will do you some good. I expect we'll see ya in about a week or two

I totally understand the feeling that you can get from this game when playing competitively. I almost never swear, but playing this game in competition can make me shout and swear when things aren't going my way. This is obviously no good for anyone, it's just a game afterall. It's all about perspective I guess? Have a nice break and come back refreshed
