So I have been trying to come up with some distances and I'm struggling, so I thought I would turn to the community for a few scenarios.
All scenarios are on Max firmness greens.
1. You are around 85 yards out. You have a headwind of 10mph. Normally I would take a SW and hit it close to the default 95 yards. 85 + 12-13 yards to compensate for the wind would mean i'd need 98 yards minus the 5 yards roll out. The problem is wind like this seems to not affect LW and SW at full force. I'm finding myself often times flying the pin. A PW lofted up to that same 95 yards seems to act perfectly, but a SW it seems like the wind affects it about 1/2 to 3/4 as much as it does a PW. Does this make sense?
2. Same type of shot except i'm about 125 out. The wind 10mph is about 8pm. For longer irons I normally add 2-3 yards at this distance, but on PW or 9irons it seems like i have to hit it a lot harder so I have to add 6-8 yards. Unfortunately it doesn't translate the same if the wind is at 9:30. You'd think you'd get a little push from the wind but I find I almost have to add a couple yards.
I also know that if you use fade/draw to fight against the wind you have to add a little more yardage because you are fighting the natural wind while if you ride it you can take some off.
I just am finding that sweet range using the LW/SW into the wind or even with a tail wind. I would think that because the ball has a higher arc, the wind would affect it more, but this doesn't seem to ring true. Secondary when the wind is a cross wind, it really seems that it acts as a partial headwind more so than I would think.
