My first Web tourney certainly one to forget. 70 and 69 for -3, missing the cut by a mile. Just couldn't hole a putt. On to next week!

Tough first round. About 6 inches combined from being 4 or 5 shots better, whether it was a putt hanging over the edge or a ball not rolling back down one of those back stops. Ugh, the promise. - 3 isn't disastrous but it leaves a lot to be desired. Going to have to be on my A game to make the cut in round 2, much less contend.

Exact same scenario for me, had to settle for -4. If the hole was an inch bigger it would've been -10 or 11. 2nd round got to -7 with 4 holes to play, knew I would need a -10 or similar to make the cut and got too adventurous and ended up dropping 3 shots instead of gaining the 3. Another -4 and a 2nd missed cut in a row. Onto next week for me

There was your first mistake Jamie haha. Although to be fair I did have top 25s in my 1st 3 web events, it's just gone to pot the last 2 weeks. You're right if that course had a lake the putter would be in it. I made a Practise tour for next week already. Might see you on there ?

To be fair, you still have a slight chance of making the cut, I wouldn't rule out the weekend just yet.

Playing my first round later than I would have liked, hopefully the late start won't affect my game to much. After lasts weeks poor play, I hope to play a little steadier this week, my putting has still been causing problems over the last few days, time to tell if that's set to continue. Such a nice wide fairway to start with, had I missed it, I would have walked off the course and giving up my golfing career to go live the hermit life far away from anything golf related. Thankfully I did not miss, my approach was to long, then came my first putt of the day, it was terrible, left it so damn short. I made par but not a good start putting wise. My attempt to use the slope behind the flag on the second green to my advantage failed when I got my direction wrong. My second birdie putt of the day was worse than my first, to avoid being short again, I hit it to hard and past the hole by a mile or so, I could not make par coming back, hell, I could not even make bogey as I missed yet another four foot putt, two over after two, not a good start. On the third my birdie putt was over thirty foot, oh joy. I had no confidence while standing over that putt. I closed my eyes and hoped for the best, the ball rolled four feet past the hole, this time I made par. No birdie on the first par five of the day, I should be getting a shot back on par fives, wrong club choice for my pitch cost me this time. I managed to fall short of the green by over fifteen yards on the fifth, I got up and down for par but yet another mistake. I played a good approach on the sixth, a twelve foot birdie putt, I missed of course, put it a foot wide. At least I did not leave it to short or to long this time. At least that's a positive, please tell me that's a positive, please give me some hope, that I am not failing into a deep pit of suckiness. A real positive came on seven when I actually made a birdie, the hole played excatly as I hoped, a short straight putt helped big time, now to try and keep that going. The short par five eight could not have come at a better time, I played simple and risk free, giving myself another short straight birdie putt, back to even par. A inch or so, that's how much I missed a ace by on nine. I was convinced my ball was heading straight for the cup, it seemed to veer left at the last possible second, then it rolled away by twenty feet or so,typical. A par to finish what was in general a poor front nine.
The back nine started with a par after yet another poor putt. I played my approach very short, it worked out well distance wise but to far left of the cup. There was still a birdie chance or what would have been a birdie chance if my putter was working, I left it short. I left the perfect pitching distance for my second shot on eleven. I then pitched it over the flag and over thirty feet long. I get the feeling that this is not going to be my day. There is something I just can't put my finger on that makes me think I might struggle to get anywhere near the cut line. Oh wait, I have figured it out, I am playing absolute shite. A good approach on twelve left me a nine foot, slightly breaking, slightly downhill putt and it dropped, the ball rolled so slowly towards the hole, it was agony, it was ecstasy. I tried to be clever on thirteen by playing short and have the ball roll close to the hole for eagle. When misjudgment is playing a major part of my round, trying to be clever is very stupid. I came to within one foot of being wet, my ball hit the bank before the green and bounced back. I got away with that, I did not get away with birdie, a poor par. Another hole, another chance thrown away, a great birdie chance on fourteen after a very good tee shot, again misjudged and wide. The same thing on fifteen, eight foot putt, missing by a good distance. I took the chance that came my way on sixteen but to be honest, it was nothing to get excited about, to little to late. Two pars to finish what has been a disappointing first day.
It has been awhile since I have played that poorly and even then, I still gave myself a good few birdie chances, just could not take them. A miracle is needed to make the cut but I don't think I deserve to after that round. I only dropped shots on one hole but it feels like I had so many more bogeys. Still, it could have been worse, time to move on and look forward to round two, my goal, just to play better than today. A quick word on the course, fantastic course, no bells and whistles, nothing tricked out, what you see is how it plays, poor shots are strictly down to poor golfing, so I can't even blame the course for my poor round dammit. Have fun all.
