Interesting..really interesting. Me..coming from years playing only TW14, after the first (dramatic, i swear) rounds on this game, decided to never touch the south/north aim. First times was really..really incredibly hard. But now, after weeks and months of play, i can say that my distance's control is really good. Really. And now I feel very confident on my putt. Always. I mean..i still have a % around the 1,3 high or even worst, but I can see that when I miss a putt is always for wrong execution, is rare that the idea is wrong. I still suffer to read the correct distance only playing on slow greens..and soon or later I'll start to work on this side of my game..but I'm really happy about how it works on fast greens. For me, the good thing about putting without touch that part of the aim marker, is that after i understood how it works, my putt has been a lot more consistent and (much more important thing for me) very intuitive to execute with my swing, so is easy to understand what is always the right strength to use. Even on great downhill putts. I suppose that, as for almost anything else, is just a matter of habits.

This is blowing my mind. I have zero issue with distance and I never move the marker. If the putt is 25 feet but the marker says 40 feet I know I need to hit about 40 feet. Bingo easy. Distance is the super easy part of putting. There are other ways?

This thread was made for previous iterations of the game where the putting marker was always at the hole at the start of the putt, tgc19 now automatically moves the marker to a suggested distance

Just fired up TGC19 and hit the putting green to be totally confused by this thread! Obviously I should have fired up TGC1 and it would have made perfect sense

Is fascinating that there are so different nuances on this thing..and any of these seems to work. Anyway.. grinder12000 i never give any attention to the suggested distance on putt. I check only the real distance, how much is up/downhill, then I putt. I could say is just about "feeling", but I don't know how explain it properly. Is just habit, I suppose. But..it works Even on the greatest distances, is hard that my putt ends shorter/longer than 1/2 meters.

Doyley Does all this still apply in TGC2019? Does setting the marker to the correct distance location still give you that margin of error it did when all these posts were written? Yes, you may have to tweak it a bit if you find you over/under hitting - but you can still use the same math to adjust the marker. Game adjusts automatically for you now but I find that it doesn't place it ideally for my putting stroke so I always do my own calcs and adjust accordingly.

If you move the marker to 6F and take an ideal 6F length putt stroke, the ball travels 6F. If you then move the putt marker to 3F, and take the exact same putt stroke, the ball now travels 3F. Likewise, take the putt marker to 9F, taking again, the same exact putt stroke, the ball now travels 9F. There's around a 3 foot, plus or minus buffer zone, built into every potential shot (actually scales out a bit with much longer putts). So if you want to putt with more imagination (HB locks you in), and have access to better precision, learn to move the marker. It's your best friend!

I think I may have turned the setting off where they automatically put the cursor at the correct distance... is that possible? I know I turned off a setting on all my other shots so it doesn’t select the shot type for me, just the club, cause I’m a space cadet and kept blading balls over the green.

If it doesn't go in the hole then you've putted wrong.

This is all very interesting Doyley et al, but my nemesis is putts that go uphill before changing to a downslope. I cannot figure out consistently how hard to hit to get up the initial slope without overshooting the hole. Any math to fix this?

No wonder I suck at putting...I just count distance in my head as I pull back and it’s about 10 feet per second ish...I can lag the distances great but don’t make too many over 15 feet 😳

Contrary to popular belief how hard you push the stick forward effects your distances for putting
