When I putt I never adjust the putting marker for distance or power, only left or right for the break. Instead I control my putting power by how far back I bring the putter during the stroke. I'd say I average somewhere between -4 and -8 depending on the course, so I'm not necisarily saying this hurts me, but I do feel I occasionally leave strokes out there on the green.. Does anyone else putt like this? Would I be better served to start adjusting distance and power by using the marker? Obviously I don't want to change anything right now in the middle of Q-School, but I'm wondering if it may benefit me to learn to putt differently in the future. Thanks!

I was like you for a while, and then I switched to do it as it is intended. It does make a big difference, particularly from distance.

So when putting that way, do you keep basically the same putting stroke regardless of distance, and just use the marker to increase or decrease power?

It works something like this: if you set it to 10ft and pull back for what would be 11-12ft putt power it will lock your distance to 10ft kind of like a grace zone, I was like you before but after doing this you'll notice a huge difference on long lag putts especially.

Definitely adjust the marker north/south for an easier putting experience - once you get the hang of it you'll never go back.

So does the marker only give you a certain distance in "grace zone" so to speak. If it's a 15 foot downhill putt and adjust the marker to 5 feet and hit what then?

I don't know you left out some info. Only reason I would adjust to 5 feet is if the putt was 15 feet in length and 9 inches down. Then hit the power for a putt to go 4-5 ish feet, the grace would help then.

I meant lets say its a flat green, 15 feet and you move marker to 5, hit 5..will it go 15? Or is that too far to move marker? Thanks for the example..

Yes to much to ask, I know I have short putt stroke, inside by back foot will go no more then 5, 6 or 7 feet no matter how far out the marker. So I would say yes.

If I have a flat 15 footer I adjust to 17 or 18 feet and make a normal (for me) stroke. If I set the marker to 5 and make a typical stroke, the ball will probably go 6 feet or so.
If I have a severely downhill putt I adjust back (down on the Dpad) a foot for every inch of decline, plus another 2 or 3 for good measure. If it really severe, I do that plus make a less than normal (for me) stroke.
Uphill is the same principle in reverse. I bring up normal stroke (for me) because I'd wager that's different for everyone. If I have one of those ridiculous uphill putts, I move the marker out, then a little more, then I take it way back and pretty much mash it on the downswing.
If you guys switch to putting this way, the feel part will come. It's pretty good once you get used to it. I'm still working on side to side break. My distance control is good. If anyone has any advice on reading break better, I am all ears.
Hope this helps Mitch.

Okay, yes both helped so I thank you. Maybe it will help my game now. I don't know how many 7-8 foot putts I leave just short of the cup.
