I'm working on a new course only have about 3 holes left to go I'm wanting this course to host a tournament, so I ask you designers who have great courses who have hosted tournaments what is the key to getting something on tours??

Luck. It's not enough to be good. There are so many outstanding courses out there, that many are overlooked come tournament time. Your course can be excellent and never get the nod. Just keep honing your craft and it will come. I know that's a frustrating answer...
Bribes help.

Just get it noticed, build a nice one, try and have it flawless and play well. Build that and the people will come, it will get some reviews and the tours will then take notice. That's your first step, the course needs to be played, finished by people and get some reviews.
The course completed threads both here and HBS and twitter with some nice pictures will help get the plays and the reviews. People playing it and getting the nice reviews is the key IMHO.
Submit the course to the TGCT database and the staff will play it as well and maybe you will get a recommendation from them to the course selectors.

Whilst I agree some very good courses can slip through, if you create something that is exceptional then I'm pretty sure it will get noticed. I just about had the confidence with my latest course to publish without any outside testing, but only having made several courses previously and getting some great feedback from those past experiences. I wouldn't be afraid to publish a beta version and ask other designers to give it a play. I would also have a little think about the difficulty level of your course. If you make it extremely tough then you kinda close yourself off to just the PGA and Euro tours. The number of top courses makes these very tough tours to get on comparatively. Getting someone to give it a go from whatever tour you are targeting might be a good idea One final word of advice, when you think you are done, walk away from it for a couple of days. Come back and be really critical with yourself. Play 2/3 rounds in offline mode (so you get winds) and write notes on everything you think could be better or needs fixing. Tee shot look a bit plain? What can you do to make it look at bit better? Play a good shot that end up getting punished or it rolls 30 feet away? Maybe a little slope to just help the player a touch might be in order. Obviously be careful to not over do it... but you'll be surprised what you find even when you think you are done. Best of luck with it

if you're on pc SEND THE FILE to a couple of designers that have tour courses as well as someone from TGCT. Get their input before you publish.

I own the company GetYourCourseOwnTour.com - we specialize in getting all types of courses on the TGCT tour circuit.
First we'd have to vet your course, there is a $100 consultation fee for that. We employ dozens of players (some people call them rangers) that check out the course from top to bottom. If we decide to represent your course, there is another $500 retainer fee paid monthly until the course appears on tour.
Once it appears on tour, your financial obligation is over and we put a picture of your course and your name on a plaque in our office to show off your talent! Other tours will be sure to come knocking on your door!
