Congrats on the round! I've heard that despite the fast/firm settings (of fine, conditions) and difficulty, it's a fun course to play. Did you find it that way?

Congrats on the round! I've heard that despite the fast/firm settings (of fine, conditions) and difficulty, it's a fun course to play. Did you find it that way? It's one of the most brilliantly designed courses I've ever seen. The concepts of par and length mean absolutely nothing here, and if you go into it realizing that the ball should be played along the ground, rather than in the air, it's actually possible to play some great shots. I watched some players hit shots from 220 yards that carried about 110 and rolled the rest of the way to the pin. If you use the ground properly and let the course help you, there's almost always a way to get to the pin. On the other hand, if you fight the course and try to fly the ball and stop it quickly using spin, it will eat you up. I can see why some of the players were frustrated in the Open - they tried to overpower the course and play the ball to stop, rather than using the slopes and backstops to their advantage. Strategy and creativity are really important - and incredibly fun to use here. The recreation was spot on, by the way. I'll post some pictures of my yardage book from there as well.
