Hazards or obstacles that are neither bunkers nor water are, to me, the most interesting thing that you can create. They take a lot of thought, playtesting, and creativity, though. Think mounds, grass bunkers, slopes, rough patches or natural areas, etc. Could agree more!

Well so far I have created a total of 115 bunkers thru 8 holes on the new design I'm building so I ask the question, how many bunkers are too many and how many are preferable to you guys ? Well, I actually do have an opinion on this, even though I usually don't know what the @!$# I am talking about half the time. Well, actually, probably more like 95% of the time. @!$# it, every time I try to add something to the conversation I just screw it up.... ....anyway.... I think it is not about how many bunkers there are on each hole, but how they are placed. Is the bunker(s) placed to give a challenge to the golfer? Is the bunker(s) placed to punish a golfer for making a mistake (slice/hook)? Is the bunker(s) more for aesthetics? Probably others have put forth this opinion regarding placement of bunkers, so it isn't the most original (so don't anyone come whining and b%&ing to me about plagiarism). When I build one of my shitty courses, I just worry about placement. Can the bunker be seen from the tee (or where the ball is lying at the time)? Am I avoiding the dreaded "bunker pinch" (where two or more bunkers narrow the fairway unrealistically so the ball's landing field is minute at best....I mean, a challenge is one thing but we aren't playing the EA Sport Arcade Rory Whatever-his-name-is Golf)? Come to think of it, I don't know why I worry about anything when I am building a course. They just come out shitty anyways. But what do I know? What do any of us know? It's your course, so do with it what you want. Think of things you would want in a golf course, do a shooter, and have at it. The 17th Hole at Royal Portrush only has one bunker....just one....only one....and it is placed perfectly.

Just depends on the course and the theme you are going for. As long as they look good and play fair,(realistic) keep building them. I personally like alot of bunkers if they are made correctly. Go for it.

Yeah it really all just depends. I find myself using more bunkering on some of my recent WIP's. On my first courses, I realized I was ONLY placing bunkers where people could hit them on this game, which I realized is unrealistic. So I'm working on three courses, and they're all very bunkered. In fact, one in particular is incredibly bunkered. I believe the front 9 is approaching 200 bunkers which to me looks really cool. Sure, some of them won't come close to being hit it, but they would in real life. I just like the aesthetic affect it's bringing the course. On other courses, I tend to look at at least 100 for the course. That's barely over 5 per hole which is very reasonable to me. I'm thinking my USO style design will get close to 400 eventually. A lot of work, but worth it.

Bunkers are too overused in my opinion, especially in real life.

I'm not a bunker fan but seem to be using them more and more, maybe it's a sig I'm running out of ideas

I use them strategically but also to fill space
