This was my hole out on 18 in R3:
Before anyone comments about the outfit again.......it was a birthday present from the wife Nice shot you lucky git! Same hole, same good looking approach....different outcome. Did you switch the pin for an extra springy rubber one after you holed out? I seem to recall Merion having pretty inflexible pins during the U.S. Open. Looks like they removed the wicker baskets but kept the metal pins for you, Brad...

Despite my lack of results in practice rounds @ Merion I was able to put together two good rounds to start off. R1 I hit almost every approach on point, hence the 58 (-12). R2 started the same, but after 12 holes my approach shots started to get less precise. Left myself a couple of Indianapolis-like putts and finished with an OK 61 (-9). All things considerd I'm sitting pretty comfy @21 under after two

Lifted my head out of the designer for two hours to play this. No practice, cuz who has time for that? Then I went out and played terribly. I couldn't get close from 62 yards out. Or from 32 yards. Or from 110. I misjudged sidehill lies and crosswinds and rarely put myself in position to score. And I putted poorly.
The course played on the easy side, thanks to the soft greens, but being in the correct area of the green led to great scores.
It's amazing how the game rewards practice and skill, even if total stroke counts aren't totally realistic. There are some great scores this week. Mine is not one of them. -6, -6 for a total of -12 and some extra time in the designer.

Firstly as reigning champ, i sadly regret to inform u, that who ever wins this week, will NOT be able to have the trophy as i didn't bring it with me, so there Now, i really wanted 2 try my upmost 2 defend this week, and to be honest i am rather pleased with my attempt. 58,59,61,61 = (-41) finish with 1 bogey throughout, so am i happy with that,,, HELL YEAH And to make things a little bit more sweeter i beat Tony n Nath as well ,, Happy Days Vwp those u have played, some cracking scores in by, well u know who u are , and good luck those left to play/finish. Now as i still have the trophy , i am going to give it another polish, and wait for a sarcastic response from Mr McGettigan Just to spite u.. No comment...

Can anyone explain this putt to me? I get the shot may have been a touch too hard to come in from the side but its reaction is ridiculous. Had a few like this so far in my rounds, one led to a double bogey on first round (14th, with the hole on a mental slope), meaning I've barely made cut with -17:
Its dead centre of hole right to left, then kicks almost backwards and straightens up. As if I had the pin in when I didn't.

Finished -33 in the end, not much practice and my attention wasn't really there. Masters next week, hype!

Similarly, the putt that isn't dead centre but a shade or two right or left running straight over the hole. These are not putts hit too hard either. It didn't used to happen.

For me it's anything that is even slightly downhill normally but like yours there they are going dead centre and not hit too hard and then straight over the hole leaving a frustrating tap in. You should send that on to King Kyne.

Wow... 1st missed cut (by one stroke) for months, and that just before The Masters. I didn't have high expectations in this tourney as I never really played well on this course (for whatever reason). But missing the cut was not what I thought would happen. Shooting a 58 (-12) in Rd3 - which will not count of course - at least shows me that I can do it... I just fail too often lately. Well... let's fly to Augusta! Can't get any worse from now on, right?

Not sure how but I hadn't really seen anything about the course until coming to play it last night. I wasn't aware Merion had been done at all! Gorgeous course, looks and plays great. I don't know the original course too well but this is excellent in terms of just being a quality course I played 2 very frustrating rounds tbh so far. I actually played very well, I think I maybe only missed 1 putt from within the short to mid range where you expect to hole as well as several long putts. Thing was, I kept making stupid mistakes. I would carelessly tee off and realise immediately I was going to miss the fairway, or convince myself through attempting the maths that I needed to adjust my shot, taking that over my gut and getting it wrong . The second round in particular. I bogeyed early on out of carelessness and only a holeout on 8 I think it was got my score back on track. In the end -10, -8 are scores I'd normally be pretty happy with, but I'm certain with some better concentration I could have done at least a few shots better both rounds, a bit of luck and the short stick kept my score on track Enjoying where my game has come in recent months, I now expect to make cuts and should be getting T25s most weeks... in stark contrast to struggling to get in the T40 on web.com last season
