Design courses. Play rounds on some new releases and write reviews.

Play PGA/Euro/Web tourneys. Play a variety of other courses of various difficulties. Find different comps going on in the Community Events forum. Practice various shots with various lofted clubs on variety of greens (firmness). Obviously my point is variety. Do NOT just practice CC events, that will get you nowhere (this is JMO for those that don't agree with me). You will get better at this game by expanding your resume of courses played.
Oh yeah, practice putting, then practice putting, then practice putting again. Putt on all types of green speeds.
Last thing, play with the yardage chart at first (Tips and Tricks thread) until you get an idea of club yardages and loft yardages. Eventually you will begin to memorize them but you would be doing yourself a disservice by not using the tools available to you. Some folks may tell you that you should play by feel and that math and yardage charts get in the way. It is a video game the truth is, consistent success on this game is built around knowing exact yardages, lofting your clubs, and performing quick math calculations. Use them.
Sorry, this is probably more information than you wanted/needed.

Sorry, this is probably more information than you wanted/needed. All great advice. I kept my answer short because that's my primary focus as I want to climb up the tiers and practicing the courses, IMO, is a must. Some people can go into them cold. I can't. Having said that, there is a ton of other stuff I do. 1) Difficulty test courses as a Ranger. This has actually helped me maybe more than anything. Playing on some of these really hard courses has made the CC courses seem much easier in comparison. Probably one of the best things I ever did was volunteering my time here. 2) Create my own courses. They suck, but they're getting better as I learn more things about course building and playing. These in turn help my game by forcing me to design a variety of holes and not just the ones that I personally like because they're easiest for me to play. I don't spend a lot of time on this because it's very time consuming to make a great course but I do spend some. 3) Play random courses picked from the course discovery thread over at the HB forums. I try to look for the hardest courses I can find because I'm not going to get better playing easy courses, which is funny because I used to avoid the hard courses like the plague. 4) Look for tips here, Youtube, wherever I can find them in order to help improve my game. Running a business, I don't have nearly the time I'd like to have to put into all this, but I do what I can. Needless to say, I'm never bored.

I can thoroughly recommend the RRCC tour - you'll find details in the Community Run Events bit. It's only 3 rounds a week and very relaxed, and gives you a good look at some of the creations that are out there. No sign up needed, just rock up and play!
Apart from that there's other competitions to look at in that thread, and there's normally a few practice tours for the following week's event up and running. That's as much time as I've got!
Although mainly I just sit around refreshing the leaderboard all week....

Apologise to the wife and kids for ignoring them for the last 3 days because I was practicing and playing the tournament on TGC. Then explain to my oldest kid that the 'words' Daddy was shouting at the TV while he was playing the tournaments are not nice words and he should not use them. Make everything good again over the next 3 days or so, then start practicing and playing again... Rinse and repeat!
