Ever had a ball land so close to the edge of the fringe that the game automatically defaults to a putter for you?
I'm sitting on the 17th hole of the Sunday course of Nusantara on PGA currently and am afraid to hit this ball. It defaulted to putter after my approach, but from every camera angle, it appears to be on the fringe.
However, the upper right hand corner says green, not fringe. What are the rules on this? I'm afraid to putt because I don't want to DQ myself from this awesome run I'm having. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I think you can chip there but might want to get a second opinion

I think you can chip there but might want to get a second opinion I couldn't wait any longer... got too antsy! Aimed one square grid to the left of the hole and putted. Ended up 3 inches right of the hole. That slope was vicious. I'd still like to know for future reference though. I've had this happen to me in tournament play 3 or 4 times and each time it defaulted to putter, I would always play it safe and putt.

If it says green in the top right then you've got to putt it, even though the ball looks like it's 6 inches into the fringe.
There can be graphical oddities in this game, where you can be on a different surface to what it actually looks like. This happens more frequently with rough and deep rough.

Exactly. Whatever's in the top right is what you go with regardless of how it looks.

Bradley is correct, if it says you're on the green, you're on the green and so have to use the putter. (unless your path to the hole is obstructed by fringe/rough/bunker)

You must be a really good chipper if you'd rather a chip than a putt. Very strange it does look like fringe you can certainly see a darker shade there in the video but I'd always go with the pic pal.I was in heavy rough one day and the pic said cart path with a 98%lie. I was delighted and made birdie then invisible cart paths are beauts :-) altough on some fast and firm set ups feels like we are landing the ball on cart paths anyway ha

Not as bad as hitting the cast iron reinforced wodden stakes and your ball going 20yards back. nantez88 didn't you have to go for surgery after hitting one on your follow thru?

Haha yeah Moe in Cca I was stuck behind a wooden stake and thought I'd flop over it. It was the funniest shot ever it bounced off the stake, shot behind me, and guess what was behind me?? Fecking water. It went straight in the drink. Disaster it was
