Just thinking out loud. How to hold a tournament where the course would not be known before hand, where no practice could be made. Idea would be to hold a tournament at one time. Say Noon on Saturday or 10pm on Saturday, or whenever. The tournament would last 3 hours. not finished in 3 hours, score does not count. No dailing in distances, no deep understanding of the course. I wonder what the results would be... Thoughts?

I like the idea but actually implementing it might be tough as this group is quite global. Some people might be sleeping, working etc depending upon their respective time zones. Saturday would probably be the day to do it.

Oh I agree, it was definately a thinking on the fly idea. We are global, but I think if we could find a way to hit Western Europe/South Africa/US/Canada we could get a few. This is never going to be a large number of people, but 30 or so might be cool. 11 am EST on a Sat would be evening in Western Europe.

Even if you didn't tell anybody until you actually created the tourney, couldn't they just load the tourney up (but not play it) and find the course out and just practice until they are ready.

Yeah... unfortunately there are always ways around it. I was thinking about having a "blind" tournament for speed golf where no one tells us what the course is, but it's easy enough to find out... That being said, I do like the idea of a limited time window event.

I wonder what the results would be... Thoughts? I can't imagine the results would be much different than most other tournaments. Throw any random course at the better players and they are still going to dismantle it even if they haven't played it before. They don't put up the scores they do because they practice a course for weeks at a time, they do because they are just that good at the game. Could be interesting if you made it a speed golf type thing though, that is one where a practice round or 2 can really help.

I dont disagree with anything above. I was thinking 4 rounds, on 4 different courses (or similiar structure) so you would need about 2 hours to play it. Not a lot of time if any to practice. I was also thinking the event could be created 5 minutes before the event.
As far as the results, I agree, better players are better players, but would be something different.

I was thinking about this a few weeks ago. My vision was to be able to set tee times etc and see scores dynamically. Just like real golf. The draw could random. For scoring you could use google sheets and see it all live. It would be pretty amazing.

I remember a lot of year ago with LinksLS I suggested and promoted it into a large community and we were able to do that into one saturday to better meet the time zone difference and was fantastic. But I know its hard to do, this can be one stand thing but dont can be implemented into regular season. Deme

So quicker players will gain. Edit: only just read nics post about 4 rounds. That sound like a good idea.

Sounds great sign me up !.....as far as pre practice goes, you would be signing up for a tournament that does not allow it, so I would think those that sign up would abide by it...
