I understand that on the green, unless the shot is obstructed, the putter must be used. But what about the fringe? What shots are legal off the fringe? Is it considered a part of the green?
I'm not a golfer so I don't know. I have always assumed that the fringe was just the outer edge of the green and thus still part of it, thus why I always putt off of it. But sometimes the fringe is a good 40 yards from the pin and putting is beyond difficult?
So what am I allowed to do if my ball is on the fringe? Which of these shots are legal.
Chip Pitch Flop Punch
Thanks.

From the fringe I've played always the shot I considered most convenient, no matter what. I'm assuming the fringe is not considered green as the game does not give you putter as default club

Thanks guys. Now I can stop giving myself a handicap when on the fringe. Putting all the time, which is what I've been doing, is not easy. This should improve my score a lot as I seem to end up on the fringe a lot due to the fast and firm greens on many of these courses.

You've been going through the trouble to switch to a putter from the chip setup the game defaults to off the fringe? Wow man, that'll be pretty big for you. You'll be making noise in D in no time.
