Well, then there is something seriously wrong with me because I'm not going to shoot anywhere near as good on this course as I did at Denali. In fact, A few hours ago I tackled pin A again and used every ounce of concentration as if my life depending on it and only shot 3 over. That's worse than any of my 4 rounds at Denali. Anyway, I'm going to start playing the tour tonight and see how I do but I am not holding my breath on this one. Hey Wag, you mentioned an 8ft putt that ran all the way down the hill? are you adjusting the yellow putter marker, as i have putted like that a lot and only just found out about that and am now practicing and it might help you with your downhill putts? Yes, I now use the marker and it has helped a lot, which is why I was surprised to see the putt go downhill like that. The only thing I can think of is that right after the cup, there was a big downhill slope so that if you go long even by just a foot, you're screwed. Anyway, we'll see how this tourney goes. Should be interesting to see if I can avoid finishing dead last on this "super easy 17 under" course. I hope the sarcasm was obvious enough. LOL.

Well, I played the first round and shot 67, 4 under but I'll probably be in last judging by the scores I'm seeing. One guy shot 15 under. Unreal. As I keep saying, my putting is killing me. I missed 7 putts from under 10 ft that I should have made. If I can't putt, I can't do well. What boggles my mind is I'm not doing much better on this super easy course than I did on last week's super hard course. Only a 3 shot difference in round 1.
Baffling.

Decided to tackle one more round before I called it a night. Shot 65, 6 under. Still have no idea how good that's going to be given the scores I'm seeing. Left about 6 putts on the green 3 to 6 inches short. Again, my putting is killing me. I have no clue how to read these greens and most putts I make over 4 ft are by pure luck. If I miss low side, I compensate the next hole and miss high side or I come up 3 inches short. These particular greens aren't as fast as I've been used to and even though I like slower greens, I've been forced to play on so many fast ones that I'm actually getting out of my comfort zone on these slower ones. So that's another thing now contributing to my already lousy putting.
No question, given my driving and approach shots, I should be 23 under right now instead of just 10 under.
I honestly don't know what to do in order to improve my putting other than just keep practicing because I have tried everything. I use the marker religiously now, and yes, it has helped.
But only so much.

But only so much. That course is a nice medium speed green and if you practice and work out where in your swing the shortish putts are and then the next set, you will do good, Ive after a few days practice, worked out roughly where the 1-8ft mark is and the 9-16ft mark is, all thats letting me down is judging for the slope, most of the time i under or over compensate. I use the marker with all putts and my putting and saving par skill has went way up. I practiced the first round in 1-8mph winds and shot a -14 under 57 and i lipped out or burned the hole close on the other 5, should have been -19 was peppering the hole within 10ft on every hole Just keep at it wag, you will get it. I for a bit of fun created a 1 hole course for myself with a decent green to practice on. If you know that the course you will play is a slow green then set the green speed on your practice hole to similar, the same with medium and fast greens, that way you can roughly judge your swing marks for your putting. around 100 is slow, 144 medium and around 160+ is fast.

Putting, in real golf and in this game, is all feel and the only way to get better is to keep practicing. You will eventually get a good feel for how to adjust for break and how far to bring back the putter for distance. At that point, scoring will depend on quality of approach shots and lag putting.

Well, I finished the whole tournament and here are my scores for Class E
Round 1 – 67 Round 2 – 65 Round 3 – 69 Round 4 – 68
15 under for the 4 rounds. Have no idea how that's going to hold up in my class but I'm hoping at the very least it will keep me from getting another demotion strike.

Fwiw I think that score is pretty respectable for someone who hasn't been around TGC tours for very long. Stay patient, keep practicing the putting and I can guarantee you that you will improve out of sight. Good luck!

You are a beginner, four under 70 rounds is a great performance, obviously in a few weeks it'll look bad, but trust me, that score means that you progress. Congratulations!!

FTR, the number of putts that I missed between 3 and 6 inches in this tournament were off the charts. I'd say at least 75% of the holes that I didn't birdie. I easily should have shot 30 to 35 under if I was any kind of a decent putter especially with some of my approach shots in those horrible winds. One pin, with a 15 mph wind, I landed the ball within 10 ft and missed the putt by under a ft. And I did that pretty much all 4 rounds. It was beyond frustrating.
When the day comes that I actually learn how to putt (if the day comes) I am going to be a force to be reckoned with. LOL.

It'll click mate, this game is a gradual progression, I've been playing since July and its only now that I feel I can tackle most of the courses. Its all just learning as you go. Putting is the trickiest aspect to learn.

Two rounds in the books. One pretty decent, one pretty stinky.
Round 1 -13. Missed about 3-4 easy ones. Could easily have pushed for -16 and perhaps -17.
Round 2 -6. I left my brain on the course during round 1. THREE bogies and FIVE pats are simply soul crushing. I have no clue what happened. That will put me out of any hope of top 15.
About to start rounds 3 and 4. Ugh.

Well. Finished.
Round 1: -13 Round 2: -6 Round 3: -7 Round 4: -9
Finishing with a -35. I am still confident the best of the best will approach -55. I am certainly not in that league but should have easily been mid to high -40s if my brain was functioning and my putter was about an ounce heavier. It is one of those happy/disappointed tours.
Best of luck all!! See you in 2016 as I am taking next week off!!
