It's been a long time coming but for one week only, I'm back on cc-a. I have mixed feelings being here again, it's nice to be playing on the highest challenge circuit but the last time I was here, I was treated so mean by certain cc members and tour officials. My three strikes should never have happened, regular readers of my posts will know about ball deflation, spiked drinks and other incidents perpetrated on my by a group of players, about how my appeals to tour officials were rejected as the crash ravings of a lunatic. But all those players, all of a sudden, from all levels of the challenge circuit in the space of one week, end up in the web.com, coincidence? I think not. They could not keep me down forever, so here I am, trying to make the move more permanent, let's see how I get on in round one.
I did not know what to expect today, practice was limited to two rounds and both of them on the last day set up. So I was heading the first three days somewhat blind, add to that the windy conditions and anything could happen. Failing to find the green on the first hole was not the start I wanted, it got worse when I fluffed my chip and ended up dropping a shot. Keep playing like this and my time here will be short lived. Disaster struck on the second when again I failed to find the green and rolled down the embankment. I should have declared a unplayable, but being the stubborn so and so I have, decided to play on. No matter what shot I played, the ball moved all of one yard. I hacked and hacked but the ball would not move. A course official approached and told me to stop, that no one wanted to be here all night, that they would just call it seven over for the hole and move on. As he moved away, he whispered in my ear, the web.com boys say hello. I should have known that they would do something. With a heavy heart, I moved onto the third, I was now battling, the course, the wind and the web.com. I though I hit the perfect drive on the third but as the ball traveled down the fairway, it moved as if it was controlled remotely right smack into the centre of a tree, remote controlled balls, how clever of them, so that's how they planned to stop me. While no one was looking, I swapped balls, time to get serious now. I made par and walked off the green with middle fingers raised, I knew they were watching. I finally picked up a shot on the fifth, inches short of a long range hole out, the fight back had begun. The fight back ground to a halt, I just could not make birdie the next few holes, I was lucky to make par. Seven over for the front nine, ah well, it could be worse!
The back nine started with par, I played a decent approach but the sideways six foot putt caught me out. I hit trees again on eleven, in fact I hit trees twice! My fight back was over and damage limitation was now the name of the game. The web.com boys lead me into a false sense of security before striking again, I can't believe I fell for it, nine over par, ball attracting magnets in the trees, I have to give them credit, that was clever. I wonder who thought of that one, lets be honest, they are not the sharpest tools in the box. They most have hired a euro tour play and I think I know who, a certain player I beat in a skins match last night, I will not mention names but it begins with a G, ends with a Y and has a AR in the middle. My next birdie came on thirteen, again just inches from eagle, pure cruelty from the web.com boys now, getting my hopes up of a great shot then dashing them at the last second. I went to seven over on fifteen, take that web.com! Two more pars followed. On the last, I finally got that eagle I was close to earlier bringing my final score to five over, not to bad considering all I had to deal with on course. Sure, it's not going to keep me in CC-A but I sure had a blast out there. After the second, I just laughed my way around the rest of the course, it was so much fun trying to fight my way back. I have been calling for more of a challenge and I sure got that today. I am looking forward to tomorrow, can I bring my score under par? Will the web.com boys have something new up their sleeves? Time will tell, have fun all, treat it like a game, it becomes a game and games are meant to be enjoyed.
