What is happening at the moment? Scottish open on a countryside that doesn't resemble a links course at all, European masters on boreal theme course when the Omega is famous for its ALPINE course crans montana, BMW international at harbor island black <<<< what?? never seen a harbor on a parkland course lol authenticity blow out IMO.

Moved it for you Joe.
To answer your post...
Harbor Island Black was originally the week 25 course that got cancelled due to next week's off week. So we had to fit it in somewhere. When was the last time someone release an Alpine Course?
Those points aside, matching the course to the real life venue is pretty much bottom of the requirements when it comes to selecting courses these days. Unless there is an obvious match that fits the bill of being both challenging enough for the top players and being a well designed course, we are preferring to just put emphasis on the latter. The exception will be when there is a course that fits all the needs (like Gator Hole did for Sawgrass or like Loa Pali would be for a Monterey west coast swing).

It's unfortuante that designers don't design on alpine, links or rural. There's loads of countryside and boreal out there. Please let's spread the seed. The first two I'll design when i get competent/get more free time will be links and rural. Tired of countryside and boreal quite frankly.

To be fair - there are plenty of exceptional Alpine courses that are worth a tour stop. Hansen Estate, Boulder Pointe 2015, HBD Twelve bridges to name a few.
I would personally prefer some resemblance of authenticity - at least for the more stand out venues like European Masters with its iconic course and the Scottish open that is the lead up to and "Links play in" for the Open Championship.

Perhaps it would be worth someone starting a "Course Selection Suggestion" thread where people can post courses they would like to see represent events rather than just complaining about the selections we make each month. A little proactive conversation might be helpful.

Talking about course selection...
Now that the Web has its own tour is there any chance of a shared course tournament at a place like Canuck Club? Sharing Devils and Angels?

Hey I just published a links course, if you're looking for a one. It's called the links at royal nuuk, would like to know what you think. I have no comment on the course selection, I've been enjoying what I've been playing lately. Just figured I'd provide a links option if you guys are looking for one play for fun or use for a tourney.

Many of the current 'links-style' courses are being done on the countryside theme instead of the links theme now due to the better textures and details. To be honest, I think The Drifts is a decent match for the Scottish Open. Also, the number of good Links courses remaining in the database to be used is very small, and they each have their own trade-offs if used.
As far as Alpine courses, they are not very popular anymore for designers or players. The theme looks very dated and there have only been a few designed with the latest editor tools. Boreal used correctly (many pines, etc) can easily take the place of alpine designs.

Like somebody said earlier, seeing countryside and boreal week in week out is getting pretty tedious.

A little proactive conversation might be helpful. Good idea I'd say... at least worth a try. But I guess it would be good if an admin starts the thread/discussion somewhere. Makes it more "official" I'd assume...

I saw on one of the HB streams that they were working on "version 2's" of all of the original themes. I am ecstatic for that as Links, Rural, and Desert could be great themes but the textures in the originals leave so much to be desired. I hope they push those through at some point and I think we will see an equal distribution. But the new themes are on a different level than the original 5.
