TCC, Brookline (US. Open) paddyjk19
Tuck in shirt, anxiety is a bit high as we are all of a sudden playing in the U.S. Open apparently and there are people here to watch us, lots of them, and they are very critical with canned responses but not nearly as vocal as they would become a year or two later. Hole numbers on the tee give us a great indication of what hole number we are playing on if the HUD in the top left hasn't already lol.
Favorite Holes
#3 Par 4. A narrow drive between rolling gorse, nice view of the lake incoming behind the low lying green, laying between bunkers on the approach/scout cam.
#6 Par 3. Perched up tee beside a house, working down a grassy valley to a green with a lower back section, making a front pin difficult to hold and a back pin fun to try and roll one up towards.
#8 Par 5. Kicker slope in right part of fairway, is fun to play off of. The layup zone is angled and pinched with bunkers making it no guarantee of a safe play. Reaching in two, requires you to run one up a hill to a small circular green, with a mean false front section, shrinking the green even more so. It's one of the higher points elevation wise out there and overlooks a good part of the course and the clubhouse.
#10 Par 4. Carry your drive over a rock outcropping but short of the creek. The approach is played over bunkers and works its way up a hill between two large dunes to a green sitting in its own amphitheater, in front of a rocky outcropping and trees, overlooked by a home. Curved steps to the next tee.
The Moment When Doobies are Lit and Hands of Dates are Held: #11 tee. Wedge length par 3, play down over a creek and before a low marshy spot with deep bunkering and great internal contouring in the green. Nice picturesque spot.
Score: 33(-2) + 37(+2) = 70E
Thoughts: Course is a good test of accuracy with small tricky greens and some nice elevation changes. The native grasses, rocky outcroppings and houses sprinkled in gives it a nice cohesive playing environment. Solid all around if maybe lacking that wow moment. Can't remember if this is the clyde/squirrel routing or most likely, a composite for the U.S. Open held there a couple years ago that Matt Fitzpatrick, no relation to Ryan Fitzmagic, won.
Can confirm it’s the exact US Open 2022 routing, the tees and pins are tied to the exact yardages and locations used during the tournament and all the stadia etc. is in the exact locations as well
