In my current design, I realized my course was laid out short at 6351 yards, according to "Course Totals" ("O" button on PC), so I did a few changes and put in another set of tees further back. I hit "O" button and it lists out at 6546 yards. I went in to play test an entire round on pin set one, logging each distance for each hole and it listed out at 7,055.
Anyone know why there is such a discrepancy in actual distance? I'm going to playtest the rest of the pin placements, but I cannot imagine that there is a 500 yard discrepancy between what's listed in the program and how it actually plays.

Depends where you are reading it from. On the front screen for the course it has a problem with the metric system and multiplies out the yardage accordingly so it’s always wrong. The yardage differs due to the waypoints and “as the crow” flies. The greenway point can also have a big difference if you have long greens with a front pin that sits 30 yards in front of the waypoint means the hole will play 30 yards shorter and the opposite for a back pin.

The yardage differs due to the waypoints and “as the crow” flies. Not true apparently! even for dead straight holes it's still wrong! Just, as a rule, don't trust the Yardages that show up at the top of the screen when it lists out the Holes/Par/Par3's/Par4's/Par5's It's always under the actual yardage. It was bothering me a while ago so I set down a 1000 yard measuring line. Then placed down 2 300 yard holes, and 1 400 yard hole, with the tee boxes for each following hole directly on top of the pin for the last. The "Course Totals" that is listed at the top of the screen (clicking right stick to cycle through for my controller) listed the total yardage at 915. The 300 yard holes were listed at 274 on their own at the top of the screen The 400 yard hole was listed at 367 All were correct on the score card The score card correctly showed 1000 yards So maybe instead of just measuring the as the crow flys distance from tee to green it's doing some silly estimation of how much of a dog leg most holes have? And then as sandgroper pointed out the Listed yardage on the publish screen is also wrong. Each of the Tee boxes will be correct based on the way points you have for the holes, but the single "course length" is longer from some reason, apparently some conversion error.

The game has had a conversion error since it was released, if you're talking about looking at the "Course Details" page and the "yards" in the "course info" section.
It incorrectly assumes the yardage is in meters, and then converts it to yardage, even though it's already showing in yardage.
For example, one of my courses - Driftless Glen - shows the yardage from the back tees as 7,137 yards. However, in the "Course Info - Yards" section, it says the course is 7,805 yards long. When converted, 7,137 meters would become 7,805 yards. So that's why the course info yardage is longer than the actual tee yardage when looking at the Course Details.

Uggh. In most cases, I wouldn't think it would be a problem, but because TGC won't accept a course under 6500 yards, I was very close to releasing my current design and it was registering short. That said, should I simply convert the raw numbers from meters to yards in the future?

One thing that happens is sometimes, the starting way point gets set to your forward tees. On some holes.
The total yardage on the course details page measures from waypoint to waypoint to waypoint. If you have forward tees and they get set to be the waypoint for the hole, that could be your issue.
As far as TGCT goes, you get to tell the submission page what the total yardage is. Just enter the total yardage from the tips that you see on the scorecard.
