Hi All
Would appreciate some advice from those that have any knowledge of pc etc.
I currently design on ps4 but with the announcement of the new game I’m considering moving to designing in computer. Particular want to be able to use the file share, LiDAR data and to get rid of lag.
I probably don’t have space for a proper PC set up in my flat so will probably be looking to use a laptop as the primary computing power (together with a screen). Any recommendations on what sort of thing I should be looking at or minimum requirements you think I need to run the designer at full capacity.
(I know nothing about computers so language for computer illiterate people please)
Thanks

Don't forget if your designing on PC for Lidar and the new game, you will need a copy of tgc2019 not sure if you will be able to port right into 2k23 you might need 2k21 as well.Let's Hope the designer is better on console this time.
I only have a I3 Laptop and if the file is Large it really is worthless, need to look at I5 or I7 with at least 8gb ram.PS i have no idea on PC's either just listing below what you will at least need, others i am sure could offer better advice.
Specs for 2k23 of steam. Looking at them nearly the same for tgc2019 and 2k21. MINIMUM: Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system OS: Windows 7 64 bit, Windows 8.1 64 bit Processor: Intel Core i5-760 @ 2.80GHz or Equivalent Memory: 6 GB RAM Graphics: AMD Radeon HD 7850 or NVIDIA GTX 660 with 2GB RAM DirectX: Version 11 Network: Broadband Internet connection Storage: 12 GB available space Sound Card: DirectX 11 Compatible
RECOMMENDED: Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system OS: Windows 10 64 bit Processor: Intel Core i5-4670 @ 3.40GHz or Equivalent Memory: 8 GB RAM Graphics: AMD Radeon RX Vega 56 or NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 DirectX: Version 11 Network: Broadband Internet connection Storage: 12 GB available space Sound Card: DirectX 11 Compatible

Just a suggestion .... When looking for a laptop, check it's accessories for a docking station, they are pretty cheap and gives you a ton of options. Besides having all of the extra ports you can run at least 2 other monitors with it and they come really handy when you want to have the game open, OSM, Google Earth Pro, Chad's, Facecrack, TGC, various websites, course detail files, etc .... Something like this one from HP www.amazon.com/HP-UltraSlim-Docking-Station-D9Y19AV/dp/B0153PUDZI/ref=asc_df_B0153PUDZI/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=309773039951&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=11936010605862693596&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9025467&hvtargid=pla-548649207514&psc=1

Got a laptop that met the minimum requirements and for sure got access to LiDAR and everything else, which made my RCR designs really take off. I did however find the laptop struggled a bit and it lagged like hell trying to play the game. In the end I got a custom build PC with some overkill GPU and RAM, now the designer runs so fast and the rendering into the distance (what you can see) and the graphics are insane! If you go laptop, do try and future proof yourself a bit and get a high end gaming one with an RTX 3080 or RTX 3090. Buy smart, buy once

Don't forget if your designing on PC for Lidar and the new game, you will need a copy of tgc2019 not sure if you will be able to port right into 2k23 you might need 2k21 as well.
pretty easy to do if you are marginally technically literate and not intimidated by a command prompt and understand where you need to make edits to the script (file path and name of input and output). i can't write a line of code but didn't have too much trouble getting it set up. had to google a few things when errors popped up, but got it working after a bit of trial and error.
workflow looks like this:
- create a blank course in 2k21 (like, totally blank with all the presets zeroed out). theme doesn't matter (you'll change it later if needed). save it and quit the game
- navigate to the game file directory. i think it's ~\temp\LocalLow\2k\courses (or something like that--i'm not at my desktop now to verify, but that should be close enough to get you what you need)
- grab your blank file and move it into the directory with your lidar data
- do the chad's tool thing
- run the python script on your chad'd file
- move the output back into the courses folder (if you didn't set your output to that folder
- launch the game and your chad'd file with all the lidar data should be there.
EDIT: no idea if this process will work for 2k23. i haven't bought the game yet to test.
