Sadly, I've had this happen to me a few times. A ball directly in the middle of the hole seems to glide right over the top of it for no apparent reason. Personally I think it has something to do with "randomness".
Here is what I mean by that. If you play someone and lets say they are chipping from 10yards off the green. On my screen it will show it go up to the hole and barely lip in. On the screen of the player however, it lips the hole and stays out. The opposite is true where it goes in on their screen but not on mine.
I really think that on shots like these where the ball may be struck too hard, or skirt the edge, there are a number of possibilities that can happen. It can go in, lip out or go over the hole as if it was too hard. These possibilities are not synced up always and thus the same shot can have two separate outcomes and we see both. The only one that COUNTS is the one that happens on the player's screen. I'm sure if you had a playing partner, on their screen it would have gone in.
I have shown this to HB and they are puzzled by it and are "looking into it."
