This is my entry to the National Treasure contest, originally as an alternate but I have been given a Wild Card to the final 32 Lady Luck gave me Vietnam and I soon found my inspiration in the rural area of Northern Vietnam called Bac Son Valley about 150kms NNE of Hanoi and even closer to the Chinese border. Fictional Back StoryThe district cooperative in this secluded part of the Bac Son Valley decided to capitalise on the growing Chinese golf tourism market by giving up a number of rice fields to become tees, fairways and greens for their golf course passion project. The bulk of the holes at Bac Son Valley play amongst working fields and are very geometric as a result. However there a few more traditional jungle-lined holes heading into the foothills of the karst mountains. Whether you've never visited or just leaving, the locals will always tell you to "Come Bak Son"! Designer Notes:This is an unusual design and may not suit all tastes. I estimate I have created 600+ fields for this design. The object meter is at 99.9% and I'm hoping all the planting does not cause a lagfest. I recommend playing on default course conditions. You bump up to Max speeds and firmness at your own peril as I have not had the time or inclination to test them! I also recommend keeping default weather to get the right atmosphere. Default time is about 7:55am but it also works well at the other end of the day.

Hole GuideScorecard: Hole 1:You start in the middle of the valley amongst the fields with a relatively simple, medium-length par 4 that dog-legs to the left. Hole 2:I don't like Biarritz greens. They are better suited to your local skatepark. However, for the first time for me, it suited the concept here where two old fields have been joined together to form the green leaving the Biarritz gully across the middle of this long par 3. Hole 3:A par 4 over the river. This one defaults to a lay-up and you have to choose to take on the water. If you have the big clubs you should be able to clear the river easily but take care if you have shorter, more forgiving clubs or you have a head wind. And remember, the water can be in the rice fields too. The approach shot is into a wide, slightly elevated green surrounded by terraced fields. Hole 4:This is a long par 5 that usually takes three-shots to reach a large, sloped green. The elevated tee gives good views across the valley. The geometric shapes found in the valley field areas is replaced by curves along the jungle-lined parts of the course. Hole 5:This long-iron par 3 plays shorter than it looks because it is downhill and the green slopes towards the river. Hole 6:A long uphill par 4 that heads into the jungle lined, karst foothills. Hole 7:The tee shot heads back towards the river. This par 5 is reachable with the right clubs and/or wind conditions. Hole 8:This little par 3 is the shortest hole on the course. You play across the river to a triangular shaped green that has water on two of the three sides. It might only be a wedge to the green but this hole packs a punch if you get it wrong. Hole 9:This is the first of two short, driveable par 4 holes. Do you lay up and play it safe, or can you thread it through the narrow strip of fairway between the river and the water-filled rice field? Hole 10:This mid-length par 4 is one of the more oddly-shaped holes on the course. You can play it safe off the tee and lay up down the left-hand fairway and leave a long awkward second into the green. Or you can take the risk of hitting the tight right hand fairway to leave a much shorter, better-angled approach shot. Hole 11:This long uphill par 4 is the sister hole to hole 6 and serves a similar function heading into the jungle. Hole 12:This hole is usually a three-shot par 5 from the back Red tees but is usually reachable off the Gold tees ... if you dare. An enclosed tee shot between the hills opens out to an approach shot across the terraced fields to an elevated green at the highest point of the course. The view from the green across the valley is one of my favourite views (and features in the in-game thumbnail). Hole 13:The views from the tee of this mid-iron par 3 are some of the best on the course. This hole plays shorter than it looks because it is downhill and the green is tiered down towards the river. I think my evil side came out for Pin 3! Hole 14:This is the second of the two drivable short par 4 holes. Are you game enough to go for the green with the all water carry drive off the tee to have the chance of an acetross? Or will you take the lay-up for the easy birdie? Hole 15:This mid-length par 4 gives another risk-reward tee shot, made easier with the longer clubs or a tail wind. Beware of what might be lurking in some of those fields. Hole 16:This mid-length par 4 is another of the more oddly shaped holes on the course. This is an almost right angled dogleg to the right, which is difficult to enforce when you have no trees! The simple way to play this one is a driver and then a longer iron uphill to the tiered green. However there are shorter options if you can land it on the "middle" fairway or, usually from the Gold tees, risk taking on the river and water-filled fields. Hole 17:The last par 3 is another mid-iron shot into a green that sits in a tight bend in the river Hole 18: This par 5 finisher usually takes three shots but can be reached in two with the right clubs and/or winds, especially from the Gold tees. This hole has my "signature", favourite view off the elevated Red tee as per the screenshot below. Look out for the Vietnam flag flower garden that also acts as a hazard in front of the 18th green and the walled lotus garden behind the 18th green (with the lotus being the national flower of Vietnam).

Possibly the most unique course I have seen in this game. That is an impressive feat alone! Despite the flatness there still is some strategy to ponder while playing. Congrats on the publish and good luck on the comp!

coggin66 Living in Vietnam, I must say this is a beautiful place that I've yet to discover. I showed this to my vietnamese friend and he was very impressed with it's features. I am definitely playing this tomorrow.

Gotta agree with Trailducker on this one... I am in awe of your creativity and unique approach to this course. The direct relation between the inspiration and the actual course is amazing. I am torn between this course and Energ1ser 's course for the best representation of the inspiration photos. Really fun round with some very creative design elements based around the crop sections. Good luck with this very impressive entry sir!

Loved the course Ken, I don’t know if there are Tigers in Vietnam but if there is I was expecting one to jump out on me at any minute. My only downside was there are no fish in the pond outside the clubhouse, I don’t know if they could not be added because of the water table.

My only downside was there are no fish in the pond outside the clubhouse, I don’t know if they could not be added because of the water table. Thanks Les. It is above the water table so fish would not work. However it is meant to be a Lotus pond as the Lotus is the national flower of Vietnam.

This is... wow. Takes a crazy amount of creativity and dedication to get something like this done. The unique use of textures and planting to get the different fields was awesome. Way to take a concept and run with it.

This has to be one of the most creative mind boggling courses I have seen. The screen shots do no justice. Spending 80% of my time on this game designing I could not imagine the hours spent on this. And I like to think I have a creative mind. This course put my ideas back to kindergarten level. School is in on this course. The tedious planting would lead me to be a raging alcoholic with no hair. No offense. Job extremely well done here.
Cheers! Jeff

Wow incredibly interesting course to say the least. Very good job on all the planting, it’s super creative and looks cool. The lighting does seem a bit bright and I think it could look even better with more dramatic setting there, but overall what a cool feel.
Golf wise it’s interesting for sure. Cool to see a Raynor-geometric style with template holes in this environment. Some of the holes are very well done. There are a few holes that seem incredibly tough at higher difficulties like 10 & 15 (very small landing areas). Either way, mad props for entering something so bold and unique.

I'm now on Series S which made this much more practical (although I still encountered some scary crashes towards the end). I have not used any multi-plant. They are all individual plants but I've never used the Copy-Paste function so much!
