Welcome to week 37 at Marriot Oceanview by boooner! I am fully expecting this week to play really easy. I gave you some wind, but find the fairways and birdies will be a plenty.

Welcome to week 37 at Marriot Oceanview by boooner! I am fully expecting this week to play really easy. I gave you some wind, but find the fairways and birdies will be a plenty. Rd 1 - Found that pretty tough going with the wind and the danger of a tempo Red. Started hoping for -6, finished -4, I think this will be a tougher scoring round than you imagine Dan. Hole 18 tee shot with that wind and that tree, left me scratching my head as to what to do

I plodded through with tempo all over the place. Didn't find it easy and got caught out on a few putts. Having said that I'm struggling a fair bit at the moment, didn't catch a decent score until Round 4, and I'm sure many will find it easy. Just got rid of my demo's but another missed cut incoming.

I too am struggling quite a bit at the moment. These red fasts seem to pop up out of nowhere on me, so now I think just the threat of them has the rest of my mental game messed up.
Course is great, as always, good pick. The wind really gave an extra challenge, as on at least two of the holes, I had to put the ball right into a palm tree to compensate for the wind.

A little laggy for me in spots, which didn't affect any full swings, but cost me a couple shots on putts and pitches. All of the rest of my screws ups were my own.

-5 first round. Of course I had to hit a red fast into the water on 12 or whatever hole it was after having a good run with perfect or slightly grey drives up to that point. But no, that's the hole the stupid red fast decides to pop it's head up. I'll play round 2 tonight, hopefully score a bit better

Round 1 and 2 is what you get before figuring out that a 16 year old 360 thumb stick is finally worn out
Switched to ds4, recalibrated, hopefully round 1 and 2 next week will be as good

-7 second round. Tempo was really good for the most part this round, just missed a few pretty gettable putts, mostly burning the edge of the hole. Will see where -12 puts me at the halfway point before playing the other rounds.

First observation. Pin 2 seems to be in tougher spots, and most of the notes apply to pin 1. Second observation. Fast track. Not much topography to take into account, no big hills to eat up shots like the last few weeks. Few lie penalties in the fairway. Third observation. Wind in round 1 will take planning, but due to the lack dense hazards or obstructions, can be taken account by clubbing right and throwing the ball out over the rough and letting the wind carry… had some nice 330-350 drives on longer holes.
1. The first hole is pretty much straight away and I didn’t play with much crosswind. Seem to work just fine playing up the left side, and the fairway slopes slightly toward the beach, but I pulled my approach right into that bunker. Should be a fair opportunity to start off Birdie. Pin 2 will sweep you off the left if can’t spin and stick it.
2. This one is a little bit longer with the bunker on the left creeping out to catch anything slightly red fast... The second bunker is also in play given certain conditions. I jumped into the heavy stuff in front of the first bunker and how do you knuckle a hybrid out, which landed about 30 to 40 yards short and proceeded to run 3/4 to the back of the green which was extremely helpful given the first pin placement. Green is very deep.
3. I would expect that the leader pack will be four under after this hole. The bunkers are strategically place to make for accurate driving, but The bigger hitters will be able to plow over some of these. Even at 575 this is easily reachable in two if you stay in the fairway and run up a fairway wood or hybrid. Green is pretty flat as well which should make for some nice Eagle putts.
4. This one should be an easy shot the shape but if you do miss the fairway left, The trees will wreak havoc with your approach as well the bunker short. another fairly easy Green to work with. Obviously a red slow will be punished here.
5. If the green is playing firm and fast you will need to hit a middle iron to get it to hold... Three and hybrids will roll through... anything in the red will likely be trouble here. The water side of the green is pretty flat and will make for some good Birdie putting. I accidentally bailed into the pot bunker going for pin 2 once... not fun.
6. Drive will favor a fade. Not much trouble off the tee. Even into the headwind was able to comfortably hit 300. Approach will favor the left as the right side of the green drops substantially. Green has significantly more texture, and I had 6 footer sweep away on me. Big ridge running across the middle will leave uphill putt if short, but don’t blow it by.
7. Not likely getting this one in 2, unless you are taking on some risk (or tail wind). If you are trying to punch it out there over 320 to give yourself a chance you bring the water into play. Just a 95% drive to the left followed by a controlled wood/hybrid to the 30 yard pitch range. I also tried one from the fairway bunker to set up 175 yard approach where you definitely want to shape that in with a nice draw. Not a difficult green, but certainly one you want to be in the correct hemisphere for.
8. Wouldn’t recommend going onto the beach... other than that unless the winds are extreme, just loft and attack this guy. None of the trouble is really in play except for an extreme miss hit. For the pins in the back right, there is a deceptive mound in that nook that will wreak havoc on a bounce/run up.
9. The bunker is well placed... will catch it’s fair share. Once again the trouble approaching the green is really far enough away that if you are in good shape to start you should have no worries except for an extreme miss hit. This was the second straight hole where I chipped in from off the green... More credence to the greens are pretty easy.
10. The driver will be tight here and that back bunker is certainly in play for big hitters even without a tail wind; experienced players probably know where to drop a Three-wood to be at their optimal distance. Approach will have best angle from the right... left keeps the traps in play. The designer did a good job of making the greens just variable enough to make you guess.... some white pets look straight enough to not even need to aim but they always end up a foot to either side.
11. 11 at Whiting Ridge kicked my ass, and this is a similar set up. Nice draw and stay out of the red and this is a free birdie... however if the water is in your head you will find it. At least not any rocks on the shore to screw with you here. Diagonal ridge going across the green can help as a backstop for pin one. Make sure to get over in for pin 2. Plays best left to right on approach.
12. You definitely want to hug that Sandtrap and say just over the back edge of it to leave yourself a middle iron on in. Pulling to the left side of the fairway is still reachable requires a hybrid/wood over a lot of danger. The green is sneaky tricky. There will definitely be a few three putts here for par.
13. Never found out if the road was out of bounds on this guy or the other one... fortunately. Love the rollerblading trail. Bunker will be in play for approach so work left to right knowing there is some safety left and long.
14. A couple tiers to the green And a little distance will make this a little bit more challenging than some of the other par threes. What’s funny is I keep saying how easy these greens are but dear God I have not made a putt yet... 2 chips, yes, like 0 for 8 on 8-25 feet. The key is my pitching game had been honed in to get inside 8 feet, but it’s rough right now.
15. Yeah don’t be a hero on this one. 250 off the tee, 150 home... shorter the iron the higher the attack in the easier it is to get over the false front to the spot you want. Pin 2 is way in back, so maybe the time to bomb to the left neck and use the lob/sand to stick the top tier.
16. Not much too comment on the drive, but the neck of fairway approaching the green definitely slopes off into the bunker on the right so be wary if you’re playing a long iron just Short to run up.
17. Went for the back left corner With a backspin draw and stuck the landing 2 feet from the pin. Very tricky hole with some deceiving angles. The bailout space on the right plays fast... lots of bounce and roll.
18. Stay right for your best angle to the green in two... however, there is a bowl in the middle right that will sweep your ball back to the middle if you do have to start out on the left... just beware the short trouble. More eagles.
All and all I did not strike the ball well enough to get a good read the first go around. Seems like the type of course where we will see a number of scores in the 50s. Seemed like a good scrambling course though... I just didn’t score yet. -3 first round with a sploosh on 5. Took time to recalibrate and seems to have improved tempo.

-7 again for the third round. I don't know what it is but I more often than not get to a point each round where the birdies dry up and whatever score I'm on after 11 or 12 holes ends up being the round. I must have had 5 or 6 putts that rolled straight over the edge of the hole that round, FN frustrating as all hell how often that happens in this game. Another week of being uncompetitive when it comes to the top spots...meh

Apologies to Dan catcherman22 for intruding on this week's discussions but....the Dirtbags need a few replacements for next season. With the swing changes some have opted out. No extra rounds involved as we play CC rounds (all four whether you make the cut or not)Check out our Dirtbag thread to see what we do. We have great competition, team and individual, and great banter. At the moment we have players from most of the CC divisions and have some who have progressed to the pro tours. Our league adds a little spice to the weekly tour grind. Contact sandsaver01 or billybudd0623 if interested.

What a difference a week makes, in a bad way. Finished T-4 last week to get my first promotion into CC-G.
After shooting a 64 in my practice round (With R1 conditions), I then scored 75 and an 80 in my two rounds. Double demo marks to start my CC-G journey incoming.
I had some lag for the first time ever in this society on the tee of a par 3 (I note someone else mentioned this in the thread). Went in the water twice, to end up finishing with an 8. From there I just rushed everything and lost interest lol. My swing timing was way off though throughout, so cannot blame the lag. Most annoying thing was that I really liked the course and thought I could shoot super low lol !
Might recalibrate as I haven't done this for a few months. Onto next week

I liked this course, that was an enjoyable 4 rounds, and the high winds in the first 3 rounds gave it some necessary teeth. I'm currently beta testing some new shots (apt, being as this game appears to be one big beta test for the next game), and having some reasonable success with the partial pitches which I avoided like the plague until recently. With pitch being the suggested shot for anything inside 90 yards I think that's what they meant us to be doing in the first place?
Anyway, I had spells where my tempo was really good, and then it was like someone flipped a switch and I couldn't find a perfect for love nor money, and then back again, and repeat. Managed to keep a double off my card for the first time in a while. Really struggled with the putter in the last two rounds, particularly on the dreaded 152's in R3.
66 70 66 69 for -17
Feel like my overall play was better than my scores but a made cut in CCA, cleared one of the two red marks I got for finishing dead last last week, mid table mediocrity. Mediocre is the new gold standard!
Really nice course, tiny bit of lag on a couple of holes on the front 9 but nothing game ruining. On to next week!
