Enjoyed my round here earlier - can tell the ideas are all there and was nice to see you put out a full 18 holes. I think 4 was my favourite hole you had, but I also really liked one of the par threes on the back (maybe 12?). Generally liked the understated environment and definitely got the Dutch vibe here. As someone else mentioned, I’d have liked the greens to either be a little smaller or the slopes to have a bit more bite, but that could well be personal preference! Would love to see what you could do on another console - keep it up!

b101 - Appreciate the post and the round, Ben! Yeah, the greens haven't been my strongest point as I tend to make them quite easy generally and I'll be working on that in future. To get generally positive feedback from a designer I really look up to makes me smile. Cheers pal! Also, do you mean the short par three? That's 12. Seventeen is a longer one, so they are pretty different.

Finally got a chance to play this - first of the NT courses I have been able to play, because I was excited to see what you got up to. For a first 18 hole course and as a contest course, this course was really good. Lots of great ideas on the course. Some room for improvement on the greens and I personally would like to see more detailed planting, but I understand for designing on a Switch it's very well done.
Really looking forward to seeing how this does in the contest and looking forward to seeing your next track!

mvpmanatee - Appreciate the comment, Jack! I know the planting has room to improve and I could definitely have done more with the greens. But I'm glad you enjoyed!

Little bump short of the deadline and main field wild card reveal - thanks to all who have been able to play Bosduinen over the last few weeks. If you haven't already, hope you enjoy a round out there!

Played this course a few weeks back but me being me I forgot to drop a comment here. Awesome work for a first release and especially on a Switch. I've seen that you've recieved feedback on the greens already, so I'll leave that. A minor nit-pick is maybe that the holes on the front 9 played a little similar but that was rectified on the back 9 (which I thought was the better of the two nines). A very good release and I hope you make it into the main field! It'll be fun to follow your CC plot and I hope you get onto a better design platform rather than the Switch soon.

axelvonfersen - Cheers, Axel! I designed the course in a weird order which meant that 9 and 18 were the two final holes I designed. I definitely enjoyed getting my feet wet in designing and yes, I plan to move to a better platform soon. Thanks man! Oh, for CC, I have a few plots started. Frontrunners at the moment are a plot inspired by Cypress Point and a course set in the Aussie sandbelt, but won't have the sandbelt bunker style. Really want to try and plant a bit more, but only where its needed.

Finally getting around some new courses and wanted to say I enjoyed this one Charlie. The routing and plot give great perspective and bless anyone who takes the time to plant a course on a switch. Good luck with the wild card slots!

jwtexan - Cheers, Wes! Switch isnt ideal, but minimising file size and planting only where I needed to helped. Thanks a lot for the comment, appreciate the play!

Well, I had a good go at the main field, but fell short. Enjoyed making this one though - if you want to give it a play, feel free to let me know your thoughts

Since you asked! I’m going to preface this by saying I have no idea what the Switch is capable of in the designer, but I think it would be a disservice to you if I were to make allowances for its lack of power anyway, as this is a pretty darn solid effort regardless! With that being said, I’m going to look at it the same as I have done for all others so far.
I really like the environment you’ve created. It’s cohesive, and your golf course fits in with the setting nicely. The big land movements were lovely - the gently rolling hills made for a really nice location for a course like this. I felt it delivered a good fun golfing experience and was a course I could see myself getting a tee time at, but also hosting big competitions - sort of like Bethpage!
The course is very easy. This is in no way a criticism, because it makes for a relaxing round. In fact, I feel I played fairly poorly and shot -4, missing plenty of birdies and only really struggling for one or two of my pars while going bogey free. However, without changing much at all, I think you could ramp up the difficulty quite significantly - whether this would make for a better course is fairly subjective though.
My favourite hole on the course by far was 14 - the driveable par 4. I got excited, hooked my tee shot into the big bunker, and was greeted with one of your deeper hazards. The shaping of this bunker was, in my opinion, fantastic. The heavy rough face into a fairly flat based bunker is a cool look and you pulled it off brilliantly here - I felt like I was really challenged to make up and down from there and in fact I missed my putt to make a sandy birdie.
Unfortunately, I think the lack of finer sculpting also showed on many of the other bunkers. They felt too flat to me, and could have done with the front being pushed up a touch, both for visuals and playing. I know it probably seems somewhat ironic to criticise a Dutch course for being too flat, but even without introducing huge elevation changes, you could do a lot. While I felt that the big land movements were fantastic, I felt that the course was missing some finer shaping. The greens could have used some more breaks to them - I liked the 11th green with how there was a mound that “leaked” into the putting surface, pushing bad approaches one side and rewarding good shots. Maybe try to do this more; your double green looked like it had some threatening slopes to it without being overkill.
I was a big fan of the way the 16th fairway joined the 9th. I’m not sure if you did this anywhere else on the course, but it felt right to me. Same with the double green - your routing was excellent in the way that you came back to the same areas a couple of times in a natural way. Perhaps next time you could even highlight this with a feature of some sort (for example, maybe you could have put the double green close to a windmill, calling back to it a couple of times throughout the round and really hammering the Holland cliche!) but I liked the lack of bells and whistles in a way, letting the course stand for itself.
All in all, you can be very proud of this effort. The patience required to pull this off on Switch must be remarkable. I very much enjoyed my round here - hard luck in the contest but a worthy contender for sure!

boynsy - This is the kind of feedback I wanted - I know there were things I could definitely have worked on but I'm glad you enjoyed some stuff there and thanks for the play!
