I know there is an amazing contest going on right now, but I just published my two course complex based in Hawaii. Both courses are TGC Tour approved, so I thought maybe folks would like to check them out and let me know what you think.
Part of the 36 hole Blacksands complex, the Barracuda course is the tougher, tournament style course. The course is long and there are 16 water holes, some right on the ocean. There are few "catch up" holes. That said, this course is fair. If you hit good shots you can score low. It's designed with decision making coming into play. You'll also see the blacksand beaches for with the course is named.
Hole 3 is a long par 3 over water. The "bail out" zone is the right and that's a deep trap. This is typical of the challenges designed into the course, you will need to bring your A game.
Hole 5 is another long par 3, very downhill. Here you don't want to miss right due to the water, but left are more bunkers. It's not without it's charm though, as the flowers give you a change to calm down if you're already having a rough day.
Hole 12 is a long par 4 (500 yards) that is part of the peninsula holes (11-13 and 14's tee). There are no fans on the peninsula, so you will get some peace. Don't go long on your approach on 12, the rocks and water are just behind the green.
Hole 16 is a double dogleg par 5 around the water. You have a decision on the tee: left is safest, but longest approach, middle/right is doable but you have to clear more and more water, and lastly there is fairway protrusion short and right that requires precision, but offers a shorter approach to the green. Depending on the tee shot, the second shot is about risk, but there is some safety off to the left as needed.
Hole 18 offers a chance to end on a birdie. Just go to the right off the tee into the fairway there and it improves your angle. The green is well protected by water short and a bunker long, but two good shots is a good way to end. The green and clubhouse add many flowers for a beautiful end to hopefully a challenging but fun round.
