This is not a famous A.W. Tillinghast design, but it's a beauty. My local Country Club in Rochester Minnesota. I live just down the street, but am not a member. I am lucky enough to have a friend who treats me to a couple rounds a year.
It's not a long course, but it can be a real challenge. The course underwent a renovation 3 years ago by Tom Doak's firm. One reason for the renovation was some sort of catastrophic chemical error that resulted in the death of dozens of trees on the property. I believe there was a settlement with a fertilizer/herbicide supplier that funded much of the renovation. In the end, it was a sad loss of trees but allowed for a golf course that resembled something closer to the original design. My design started out with Lidar, but the catch was that the data was 5 years old, and thus I would say I did at least 90 percent of the sculpting by hand with reference images, various satellite views, course video and my memory. I truly feel the actual layout, bunkering, tree placement and other sculpting is nearly dead on, or as close as can be accomplished. What I did take liberties on were some of the greens. That is the hardest to get right with old Lidar. I believe they are accurate to intent, but I did exaggerate in areas to give them a more Tillinghast feel, though nothing as extreme as say Winged Foot. I also made some of the areas of trees (that don't come into play) a bit more dense as more trees were lost than hoped for. I also did some minor expansions of brush and natural grass areas, but the 17th hole is the only area that even comes into play more than on the actual layout. For lots of pics and side by sides there is a thread in Under Construction or a album of pics here: Album
I suggest Blue tees for the true member experience, but there are just a few added new "Black" tees that up the challenge a little more for all you lights out video game golfers.
Designed on PC, tested on PS4 as well as I have both. I sure do notice a better looking game on decent PC vs old PS4. I suggest default conditions with a medium to strong NW wind. No guarantees all pins are playable on very fast greens though.
