I am excited to announce the addition of Friendly Meadows to the PGA 2K21 list of courses. While I have created many fantasy courses, this the first time I've taken on the challenge of creating a real course.
Friendly Meadows is located in Hamersville, OH, just east of the larger town Bethel, OH. The course is about 30 miles east of Cincinnati.
Friendly Meadows is known for having some of the best greens in the Cincinnati region. It is also one of the best deals in golf, with 18 holes and a cart on the weekends costing less than $40.
The course layout plays around three large lakes and across Clover Creek on four holes. The layout is not particularly long and because of this a set of black tees were added for video game play. The red, gold, white and blue tees are set close to what the score card read in 2019.
There are several holes that are absolutely beautiful. Some of these include...
- Number 1 - The view from the first tee box across Clover Creek to the awaiting fairway, and the scene across a small pond to number nine green, with an old ivy covered silo in the background, just put you in the mood for golf.
- Number 3 - A long par three framed by trees, with a lake running down the left hand side is a challenge for golfer.
- Number 9 - From the fairway in the valley next to the creek, looking up hill to the steepest green on the course. The ivy colored silo looming in the background.
- Number 13 - A challenging par five with a narrow fairway lined by a gauntlet of trees delivers you to a green surrounded by water on three sides.
- Number 16 - "A postcard waiting to be sent". I stole that line from the course web site. Both your first and second shots play across water, and it is probably the prettiest hole on the course.
- Number 18 - Playing along Clover Creek, this is an excellent finishing hole. While it is easy to get in trouble, a good tee shot leaves a short uphill approach and a chance to close with a birdie.
This course was originally created in TGC2019. It was not created using any data loads. Instead, hole and object locations were mapped using Google Earth, and individually drawn in the game's course designer.
The goal of this course was to recreate my favorite real course in video game mode. My hope is that golfers familiar with Friendly Meadows will get the look and feel of playing the course in the video game. Many of the signature views familiar to Friendly Meadows are present in the video game version.
I hope you enjoy the course. If you are familiar with the real Friendly Meadows, I'd be interested in your thoughts. And if you live around Cincinnati and have not discovered this gem of local golf, I highly recommend you give it a try. For more information, please visit the links below...
