Now published! This is a fictional renovation/restoration of the North course at Detroit Golf Club, based mostly on the original 1916 drawings of Donald Ross, as well as with some reference to a 1951 aerial image. The major changes include re-routing a few holes, green expansions, bunker and other design changes, and thinned out trees for better views across the course. For a detailed look at each change made to the course, please check out the WIP thread here: tgctours.proboards.com/thread/26378/motown-club-1916
The par 72 course features 5 tees, with the longest playing at 7404 yards, pretty similar to what you would see during the Rocket Mortgage Classic. Just to note, there is a Green tee that is about 150 yards or so shorter than the Black tee/tips. Where possible, this tee is meant to present a slightly different angle to the hole or different driving option based on length. It's not majorly different, but still a change of pace.
Due to many of the changes made to the course, a tournament version with full stands and camera towers doesn't seem appropriate. I have added crowds throughout the course, although unless you prefer crowds, I would recommend turning them off for better views across the course.
Here are an assortment of final pictures. Enjoy!

Looks great! Hoping to give this one a play over lunch, but course publishing seems severely lagged, if the course even shows up at all. Fingers crossed this one's available in the next hour or so!
EDIT: the course was not there during lunch. Will check again later.

Really enjoyed this. Definitely found it more memorable than the official version and I thought the work you did with the greens was great. I highly recommend the WIP thread of this course for any architecture nerds out there--was an enjoyable read.

Plus the thought process in the Under Construction thread was a great read.

I was only able to get partially through a round here last night, thanks to the server delay that kept the course from showing up until last evening. But what I saw was great. As others mentioned before, reading the WIP before playing it gives you a better understanding and enjoyment of the course. Can't wait to finish the round, but already know this one will be a favorite that will find its place in the rotation!

I've just given this a play and it's beautifully done. But, I wouldn't expect anything less - the skill you have designing courses is unrivalled. I look forward to playing this on Tour.

Had been really looking forward to this one and it did not disappoint. Was an absolute pleasure to play and the changes to each hole made this easily the best version of DGC to date. I'd encourage everyone to have a read through clv's design notes and then play the course. You'll appreciate each thoughtful and considered change for what it is. Love the way this was done. Will play this again with the notes in hand next time but the ditches reintroduced on a number of holes (most memorably on the back nine) with the long grasses were a strategic highlight for me. The long par 5 16th and par 4 18 caught me out! 16th was my favourite hole. A straight hole but with risk/reward attached. The ditch along the left and the fairway bunkering on right pinching the fairway landing area. "Do I take driver or play safe with 3W and miss the opportunity of reaching the green in 2" I said. Took driver and nailed it! Great work Craig. This was an easy 5-star favourite for me and will definitely be playing again to improve on my +4 round. Thought I hit them OK though and this is the reason why this has playability. I didn't find it a pushover (as I'm sure many of the gamers will!) and will be coming back for more. Also glad you didn't put tournament objects in. I feel this is often (but not always) overdone and detracts from the enjoyment. Thanks for your great work here. Well done and looking forward to Meadowbrook. (NOTE: Hoping this might create a wave of designs that "lift" older courses. hickoryghost published a recreation of Spring Valley CC in Salem which I also thoroughly enjoyed.)

I shot through the course earlier today. As others have mentioned great-looking course and plays fair. Will definitely be shooting this again in the future. Five-star all the way. Thank you for sharing always love your courses.
Was just wondering on the TGC Tours page that lists your courses for 2K21 St. Andrews is listed. But when I try to search for it on 2K21 nothing comes up. Was just wondering if you ported it over yet? If not looking forward to playing that one on 2K21. Thanks again for sharing your courses with the community.
Thanks, Justin

I don't imagine this course will spark some kind of action at Detroit GC like hickoryghost did with the LIDO, but it has gotten some attention. I've gotten word that some superintendents at various clubs around Detroit have played it and enjoyed it, particularly the addition of the drainage ditches.

The strategic placement of the extra sand was well executed but it was the ditches gave me twitches!

Figured I should play the course that was one Twitter vote better than mine. And after a round my question is: seriously people? Only one vote better? This is really, really good stuff here, Craig.

And not to forget Lucas Herbert's win in the Irish Open, AND Ben O'Connors stage win in Le Tour where he now sits in 2nd place and hopeful of a podium finish but still a loooong way to go of course. A great day for the people living upside down on the other side of the earth!
