Hi all
I really do think I’m losing the faith with the designer. I’ve been working on my latest course for a couple of weeks and truth be told I’m sick of the sight of it now.
I’m not convinced it’s any fun to play at all. I’ve got a long way with it but thinking of walking away from it and having a long rest from the game in general.
I’ve published a beta and would love if you could give it a play and let me know what you think.
Is it worth finishing?
Meant to be played in a high north wind.
Course name is: LF Beta 1
Thanks for any help/advice/criticisms/feedback.
Stay safe. Greg

Sorry, meant to say, holes 1 to 4 are basically completed.
The rest are not and 18 is barely started.
Thanks again for your time and effort guys. Cheers

Just played the front nine for you - and it's a nice course with some fun holes and a nice style and atmosphere. Couple of comments - did NOT like the rocks in the middle of the fairways at 1 and 7 (the par 5) - they really don't fit. (especially on 1) I did like the rocks down the sides of most of the holes though - gave it a different feel to normal. Bunkers - some of them seem a) too small, b) too far from greens, and you will get comments that most of them are just one default shape (mostly round). You did a couple of nice waste type bunkers on the 3rd(?) - use more of that style for the standard shaped ones IMO, and it will make them stand out as features better. So good job overall But - if you aren't enjoying making it - then don't - no point in forcing yourself to build it just because 'I've got to finish it now'. Maybe just come back to it in a few weeks time when you 'want' to re-start it....

I wasn’t sure about the fairway rocks but I thought they may present a different hazard to bunkers. I may rip them out and practice some pot bunker sculpting. I hadn’t realised the bunkers were too small, thanks for pointing that out. You’re right, probably a rest from it and come back fresh is the way to go. I find it difficult to “judge” if what I’m doing is any good which is why I cry out for other people’s opinions and suggestions. Thanks again for your help 👍 😊

Hi Nifty1,
I haven't had a chance to play your course yet as I've had a busy weekend here with a big project going on in my basement. I did want to reach out and share some thoughts on your original post.
--- I really do think I’m losing the faith with the designer. I’ve been working on my latest course for a couple of weeks and truth be told I’m sick of the sight of it now. ---
I can totally relate to that feeling. I think I suffered the same for the first course that I built. My lesson learned after was that I took on too complicated of a project and like you I was sick of seeing it in the end. I pushed through and finished it off and published it. I learned a lot and for my 2nd course have taken a better approach including doing a bit more planning in advance.
--- I’m not convinced it’s any fun to play at all. I’ve got a long way with it but thinking of walking away from it and having a long rest from the game in general. ---
I would bet that others are actually going to find it fun. I think we all devalue our own courses a bit and 2nd guess how they will play. In the end if its fun and works it will get plays, if not, then it won't. Either way you will learn a lot and just take that and push it into your next course.
At the end of the day, if you aren't having fun then yeah, I would take a break. This is a game (even the designer part) and should be fun.
One other thing that I've come to the realization is that my bar right now should not be the top designers in the game but rather just being better than myself.
my .02, hopefully that works.

Hey nifty1
I haven’t read any responses to your original post so don’t know what others have said. I also haven’t had a chance to play your beta but I dropped in to say this...
What you are feeling is 100% normal. You will hate the designer if you are putting the effort in to get it to a higher standard. The reason for this is it takes ages to do it justice.
All I suggest is don’t delete it, log off for a week and play other games. You will find yourself thinking about the designer when you are not on the game and that’s when it’s time to come back.

Thanks for the advice and feedback guys, it is very much appreciated. I think that as this is only my fourth course in the designer and I have probably bitten off a hell of a lot more than I can chew! I think I'm perhaps trying to run before I can walk. The problem is I saw Lofoten on Youtube, loved it and said what the hell, let's have a go at something like that. I built the best hole on the course first, just as a sculpting exercise in the designer, and I think it came out really well, so I built the 1st, then the 3rd and then the 4th... I think I did get the "feel" of the course with these holes but as I progressed further in to the course I sort of lost my way. Some of the mid holes are OK I suppose, they play well on pin set 3 I believe, but I'm comparing these to some of the best designers out there, as Stubby said, which is ridiculous for a 4th course and only been playing with the designer for about 10 months or so. I've posted pics from the Beta course below, in case this is lost forever I might come back to it after a break and see if I can rescue the bits I don't really like. I should probably just do a 9 hole pitch and putt course with zero planting for my next attempt ... just to get my head on straight again!! Thanks again guys, Your time and support mean a lot Cheers Greg

What you have so far looks pretty damn good! But, as others in this thread have said, if it’s starting to feel less like play and more like work, take a break! There’s no time limit and sometimes the brain just needs to focus on something else for a bit. You could start a new course, take the time to play all the awesome dream team and rookie courses coming out, play a different game, or just take a break from video games altogether! Whatever you decide to do, do it because it’s what YOU want to do👍🏻!

I’m going to take a break and come back to this fresh. Some of the rocks on the inland holes are waaay to big. I’ll delete the lot, smooth the landscape and replant all the rocks. At least I can think of a plan now .... instead of just deleting the whole course because I was absolutely sick to death of it....I wanted all the holes to look as good as 1 to 4 and it just wasn’t happening!! Hopefully when I come back...it will. I see on CrazyCanucks latest stream he was considering doing a course based on Lofoten. That should be great to see and will put my effort to shame 😁 Cheers
