All of the tutorials I’ve seen encourage using the blue sculpting and flattening tools. But when do you use the red tools?

All of the tutorials I’ve seen encourage using the blue sculpting and flattening tools. But when do you use the red tools? Use them to raise the entire plot above water before you start, so that you don't end up with areas where the fairway or green brush won't work. Then do everything with the LANDSCAPE tool (Blue Brush). Alternatively, if you want to "cut" a section of fairway out, you can use the red brushes to sink that portion of the fairway. This can be used for centerline bunkers. This technique works only with fairways and greens that are laid down with brushes. It won't work with auto-filled splines. Red SCULPT basically modifies the untouched land and applies the "Hills" setting to it (land will never get perfectly flat using red brushes). Once the LANDSCAPE tool has been used in an area, the red brushes won't affect the landform at all.

Ok really though... I never use them on the course past creating the plot. Mayday has a good explanation of why the red brush is actually useful early on.
