Howdy peeps!
What are you guys think, how important is it for you, that a course have some off-course stuff like a Cartpath, a clubhouse, a driving range and something like that? I mean, most people didn't notice that at all, but some wondering where the clubhouse is. xD I don't care about stuff like that, for ME its just a nice "add-on" but nothing important to rate a course.
But what You saying?

I like to see stuff around the course, yes. I've rarely played irl anywhere totally isolated from civilization, and I think I've played about 70 or 80 courses in the US. Cart paths are less important, but clubhouse is fairly essential. It can be a little or a lot.
One player's opinion ..

The object meter is best used elsewhere in my opinion. If you can see it as part of the course, it works though.
Unless done really well, cart paths are an eyesore.

For me, those things are very low on my priority list when designing. Mostly because I am not good at making clubhouses and cart paths. So instead of having them detract from the overall look, I just don’t do them. Especially cart paths, those need to be done perfectly or not at all. Some people are good at them and make them work really well, for others including me, the risk is not worth the small reward.
When playing others’ courses, I look for the clubhouse and look around the property just to appreciate the artistic creativity of some of our designers and to make an attempt to learn how to do it.

The importance is relative to your intentions.
For example, if you intend on namimg a course Generic Country Club and it doesn't have a clubhouse, etc., that would make no sense. If you named the same course Generic Golf Links then you can get away with not having a clubhouse, etc.

I think environment plays a big role here. If you course is tree-lined and “closed” feeling, the off course stuff isn’t very important because players aren’t going to see much of it. However, if you’re design is more open with longer sight lines, a fancy clubhouse, neighborhoods, and other off course stuff not only helps add to the ambiance of the course but can also be a great way to fill the wide open spaces without killing plant meter. I like looking at the extra off-course goodies that designers spend hours creating but they will never outweigh the quality of the actual course. Course first, off-course extras second!

Here's the thing. For many players (and designers), realism is very high on the priority list. Players want to be immersed into a golf experience. That means cartpaths, a clubhouse, and things like coolers and ball washers. Another example would be something like this: you have a teebox 20 feet above the level of the cartpath. If there are no stairs, how does one get up there? I played a course recently that had canyon walls surrounding each hole. I spent half the round wondering how to get to the next tee. I've played courses with rivers and no bridges.
Are cartpaths mandatory? Absolutely not, especially with how difficult they are to make. But you have to have some around the clubhouse. Is a clubhouse mandatory? I might say yes. Even if it's a Winnebago, you have to have a place where the players pay to play golf that day. To me, a good golf course should have the infrastructure that any real course has, meaning a clubhouse and a parking lot along with roads/paths to get from place to place.
As for the more garish off-course features like statues, ruins, and other designer-built scenery, I could take it or leave it. All that stuff is fine, and I respect the time and effort put into it, but the golf has to come first. I hate the implied requirement that unless a course is spectacularly scenic, it isn't an elite golf course. I hate designing a golf course and then needing to spend another 3 weeks making scenery. Maybe it's why I've never won (or really come close except for Old Henry) a contest. I just don't care enough about the non-golf stuff. Clubhouses and cartpaths are one thing. The great pyramids of Giza are something else entirely.

It is really interesting to read what you write. Most like the cartpaths and a clubhouse because its realistic, but i see so many island courses and then i also wonder"how can they reach the island" or "where is the city where peeps can go in to the clubhouse", peeps want a realistic course but they dont think about that. So if i build a island with a clubhouse, then it would make sense that this island also have something like a harbour, a airport or a city, but most dont have it. So that's why i ask. Its sometimes a bit weird. And when you always have problems with your object limits (like me. lel), why you should take your time to do something like that. ^^ And thats why I think thats not really important for a course, but yeah, like i write, is really interesting what you guys think about it and i also can understand it, sure. Its just, like hallzballz6908 write, i am also not that good in greating stuff like that. ^^ I love to create off-course stuff, but most of that, nobody will ever notice. And that's a point where i am thinking to let them down, just because, i need so much time to create. Thank you all for own opinions for that! I really appreciate that.
