Welcome to week 10!
After the difficulty last week, an easier week should be on tap. Bring your birdies, because I feel you might need to make a few to be competitive.
I don't think I've given you 187 greens before.. could totally be wrong.. but the first two rounds are set at 187. Winds are moderate and the course is receptive. I did move the tees up in round 3 (I know it feels like its always round 3.. that'll change). That round has the highest winds and firmest conditions, but the greens slow down a bit. Final round has probably the easiest conditions and the toughest pins.
Good luck and play well!

Just curious.. how many promo marks does it take to be moved up a tour? I'll have 4 after this previous week just finished. Just wondering what tour I'll be on for this week?

Got the fingers crossed for a promotion mark or two! Frustrating 67 to start, but fired off a 59 in round 2. Solid 61 in R3 and the slower greens left a little meat on the bone with a 63 to finish. -38 overall. Got my eyes on CC-C hopefully!

Started off with a -12 round in CC-E after finishing 4th last week. Up until the 9th I hit all birdies with an eagle and one par, then bogey on the 9th. Or something like that, I was -7 at the turn in any case. Nice to get off to a good start.

I thought I'd do a quick writeup for the hole-by-hole of this week's CC tourney course like I did last week. Hopefully it helps or can be used as a reference as the week goes along.
RECREATIONALE ROUGE • DATE ADDED: 10/11/2020 • THEME: HARVEST • TYPE: FICTIONAL • PAR: 72 • YARDAGE: 7115
(from TGC database) COURSE ARCHITECT: Jack Reed says:
"Fictionally set in Halifax, Canada, this Harvest theme course provides a bit of fall colors with the perpetual fall seasonal temps and hopefully a golf challenge to complement the beauty, give this track a run and let me know what ya think and how you did."
Jack if you want to give your comments on the course, once you post them, I'll take my writeup down.
Par 72, 7115 yards
Playing Recreationale Rouge, I felt like I had snuck into some really rich and exclusive club and discovered a beautiful treasure. It’s an elegant parkland course with lots of ‘rouge’ – red flowers live everywhere and red trees line the holes. Reminds me of Tasoto GC that we played earlier this season. We should get our walking shoes on, there’s lots of elevation with only a few flattish holes. Practicing on it, I found this course was of average to easier difficulty- easier than last week’s Ayers Point at least. It’s a well-thought out design with great strategic bunkering and a number of water hazards that come into play on about half the holes. Add in the elevation, and there’s several ways to score but several ways to mess up. Many holes are straight, so there won’t be the need for a lot of draws or fades off the tee. Just the time of year for the harvest theme and a colorful golf course.
The weather report indicates winds south, southeast, and east. I played 2 practice rounds with southeast and south winds. 1) 4-379. The opening par-4, is your basic easier mostly straight par-4, a great way to get comfortable with the scenery for this week’s tournament. The flat green allows opportunities for recovery if in the rough and gives birdies to those in the fairway.
2) 4-474. This wavy straightaway par-4 is 100 yards longer but with a southeast wind at your back, it’s much easier. The back to front two-tiered green is receptive for longer uphill approaches coming from the ‘valley’ fairway. Don’t go long on the approach as water is behind and to the left of the green and the upper tier of the green can be scary if putting downhill to the front.
3) 5-555. A straightaway par-5 and an easy birdie opportunity. More great bunkering are the only defenses to contend with.
4) 5-518. After 3 mostly level holes, we begin the rollercoaster ride uphill and downhill on a lot of holes where shot adjustments are required. After a long downhill drive, the approach is to a green perched upon an incline to a difficult two-tiered green.
5) 3-173. Hit it downhill short of the hole on this par-3 that has water to the left. The shallow green is pitched away from the tee so approaches that hit the green’s front will roll to the hole.
6) 4-308. A drivable par-4, all shots left with be swimming. Anything right of the fairway is safe but numerous strategically placed bunkers should be avoided. The green is very difficult for lag putts if you find yourself far from the hole.
7) 4-466. Though it’s a long par-4, the wide fairway is forgiving. Perhaps too long to be a birdie hole, it’s also unlikely to be a bogey hole as mistakes aren’t punished heavily.
8) 4-462. This can be a very tough hole against a headwind as it’s long and 50 feet uphill. Luckily, errant drives that fly too far left with knock the side of a huge hill and bounce back to the fairway.
9) 3-174. The #1 handicap is all about the drop. Judging which club off the tee is the challenge as the tee shot is sitting almost 80 feet above the small green.
10) 3-164. A much easier par-3, the tee shot is more comfortable after dealing with the 9th hole, but the green is a tiny target.
11) 5-564. A second straight birdie opportunity, only the difficult large green can cause chaos. One can easily reach the green in two then fail to capitalize with a birdie if the ball lands too far from the hole.
12) 4-409. We’re given a choice off the tee of driver or wood on this beauty of a hole. With driver, a full and perfect 300 yard drive in the middle of the fairway will get swallowed by the pond that splits the fairway at 290-300 yards. Whichever club is used off the tee, the pond will also interrupt the approach.
13) 3-223. Only the length is troublesome on this easier par-3. The green is large and forgiving, the tee shot is downhill and the apron is enough to give the option to have a low ball flight if the wind is against the golfer.
14) 4-510. Don’t let the #10 handicap rating fool you, you have to work for this par-4 stretching over 500 yards with water all along the left. The long narrow green has little undulation but it’s difficult to hit from 200 yards out.
15) 4-453. The #2 handicap hole, watch out for this par-4. The dogleg right wraps around the pond right of the fairway. The approach is to a shallow green which hides behind a row of bunkers.
16) 4-462. A straight-ahead hole with a wavy fairway, there’s plenty of room for the tee shot. The approach is more difficult.
17) 4-318. This is a companion drivable par-4 to the 6th hole but this time water is along the right side instead of the left.
18) 5-513. A second easier hole, this par-5 wraps up the round as the easiest hole on the course. If there’s an eagle flying around this course, it’s hovering over 18. An airplane runway fairway is almost impossible to miss. Only the smart bunkering can halt a birdie or eagle chance. The best hole on the course to let the ball fly.
So a fun course with not too many intimidating holes- please don't kick my butt too much this holiday week! Good luck to everyone and Happy Thanksgiving to those celebrating.

Whilst not as pretty as last weeks course, of course, I find this one to be more strategically interesting and fairer. I appreciate how this course punishes you for bad shots but doesn't necessarily kill you at the same time. I think it got the balance between very scorable but not straightforward easy just about right.

I really struggled. Think after i parred the first which was disappointing. I then was three over before I knew it. Going to be looking at the cut line this week perhaps . Everything bad was my fault over cooked over whisked and burnt a lot of cups.
But like the reviews above said. Lots of birdies to be had if you play the course well. Thinking about it, I don’t think I gave the course enough respect after rinsing it in a few practices round. Commis chef error . Good luck

CC-A ; After a good start, completely buggered both the short par 4's in Rd1 for a -2. Rd2 ; Hit a -12 to be -14 at the cut but reckon I won't make it unless everyone here hates 187's and hits the same lakes I did. Finished with 2 x -11's for a -36 in that's any consolation. Cheers.

CC-B Kudos to the designer this week. Granted I played okay but the course had such a great balance. Good elevation changes and fun greens... oh and LIGHT ROUGH. That was an enjoyable tournament.

CC-F
Nice course, suffered from the fast yips this week but still pulled off an okay total of -23 (-4/-7/-2/-10). Found the water a handful of times despite doing my best to avoid it. Pulled off a decent finishing round but I'm sure someone will shoot -19 to make it look average.

(embarrassed to ask, but what is "187" greens?) 187 ft. is the fastest speed setting for greens. When you are putting, look at the top right and it says a number in feet. This is how far your putt would go on a flat green and hit with 100% power.

Maybe it was just be, but did anybody else experience a lot of stuttering this week? It seemed like every shot I was stuttering
