Hey all.
I can’t stare at this project any longer so here is my rookie design contest entry.........
RL Facts:
Chiang Mai is a beautiful tropical, mountainous city and province in the north of Thailand. It’s located on the ‘Ping’ River and its proximity to the river enabled the city to grow as a major trading route with a particular focus around rice and tea production. It also has some of the most beautiful waterfalls in the world. This golf course was inspired by images like these:
Fantasy Stuff:
For the past decade, the rainfall in the region has dropped considerably and many of the tea fields and rice terraces were downsized. While they still experience the seasonal monsoonal rains through May-October which help maintain their dams and crops, the other 6 months of the year are quite desolate. The governor of the Chiang Mai province commissioned the local farmers in this ‘downtime’ to build a golf course just outside the city of Chiang Mai to help increase tourism to the region as well as to help keep the farmers employed. Much of the course was to be built on old tea fields on the Ping River and around their local rice terraces.
You will not find any cart paths, manicured formal gardens, perfectly formed tee boxes or even many well constructed bridges. This course was built on a tight budget into its natural surrounds with many holes weaving through the old tea fields and around natural waste areas.
Course Details:
Despite its relatively short length (6966 yards from the tips), this course is just a par of 71 and is not easy. There’s OB and significant danger on the majority of holes and the greens require precision to score low. There’s also a number of holes that play much further than their yardage.
Black Tees – 6966 yards – Designed to test every pro level player.
White Tees – 6851 – Almost the same distance as the black tees, the white tees are something new I wanted to try and are the “tourist tees”. What this means is that in RL they are much further from the other 3 tee sets which realistically would make the round much longer to play. These tees could be used when the course is not in peak usage so not to delay players rounds. In game, they enable the course to be played from significantly different angles and typically with more elevation. They are much more of a casual, fun tee set.
Blue Tees – 6363 yards - Considerably shorter than the black & white sets but the difficulty and most danger is still as strong from tee to green. This tee set was designed to accommodate CC-level and below.
Red Tees – 5718 yards - Shorter again and are designed for beginner level players only.
For anyone who wants a decent challenge:
Black Tees + Very High Winds from the Northwest. Crank everything else up too if you like.
A short promo:
ErixonStone - Not sure how the judging works for the contest but if you’re judging from one tee set, please use the black set.

Just also want to indulge quickly to thank some guys who have helped me to keep learning this fun and addictive course designing so that I was confident enough to enter a contest.
lessthanbread – He was good enough to play through my entire first fantasy course even though I know now it was complete dogshit. The guy was so respectful in his critique and didn’t turn me off continuing even though it was terrible.
VctryLnSprts – Played through my two other fantasy courses for me and gave me plenty of great tips.
My first one had multiple 600+ yard holes. So dumb.
b101 – Obviously one of the best designers around and he’s always been more than happy to answer questions in his streams. Any advice he’s ever given me either with my RCR's or fantasy courses has been spot on and usually stuff I hadn’t even thought of.
@babybull – Nicest guy in the forums. Always supportive of my courses and playing them even when they were sh%$.
Avakrac and jimgem – These guys just keep pushing out great course videos for the designers. Thanks guys.
And everyone else who's provided feedback both positive & negative to help me learn. Cheers.
As always, I welcome any constructive criticisms, feedback etc on this course too please.
Best of luck to everyone in the contest. Drive safe
