Splining seems to get some variation in object sizes, but still a tight range. You'll have to play with the fill slider, but turned it down to under .1, and you can then duplicate with another object in the same space. I've been using it to place vast areas of rocks & plants in a desert theme (it might be steppe, tbh).
Sometimes, I'll turn it down as low as .0007 to get a smattering of the plant/rock over several hundred Sq yds of terrain at once. BobGulchBeta has some of it, finished course is still a few days away.
Used the technique on Lynn Valley GC to do some rock-strewn pond shores, and grassy areas, so maybe see if those catch your eye sometime.

I just recorded a quick tutorial on grass planting during my last design stream. It is mostly the technique the obmar described. Might not be exactly what you are trying to do Classy but you can spam plant at a fixed level which is great for water planting. It's like a course design tutorial via ASMR. What a calming voice you have! Thanks for putting that here. Lots of guys (myself included for a while) confused spam planting with multi-planting. That is the way I talk when I'm trying not to wake the baby at 1am. I'm glad it was soothing as well as informative.

Do be careful with this though Cautionary tale: you can end up with overly dense planting over huge areas - which *will* fill your File Size meter too fast. If you area select and its a solid green, you might have overplanted... I did 5 holes and surrounding area and File Size was 65% - but like I said, I massively over planted

At the risk of sounding like a stupid "newbie", how do you resize the Area Select brush? I've created a grass and brush "farm" (great idea!), and when I Multi-Select and choose "Area Select" it doesn't seem to work.
