Started planting on my RDC course last night. Is there a way to scale objects when multiplanting? I was trying to plant a bunch of cattails along the shores and shallows of a lake, but when I went to multi object planting, they all went down to itty bitty sizes. Side note, I guess doing multi planting isn't viable in the shallows since it automatically puts everything at 'ground' level? This apparently applies even to lily pads, even though they would actually float on the water surface? Seems as though I'm going to be stuck planting large areas one by one This, combined with doing the Doubtful method on my creek is going to take literal weeks

Do you know how to spam plant? If not I can find a video for you. You could also create custom "multiplant" areas and copy/paste. But for the most noticeable stuff I'd still individually plant it.

I guess not. I've been planting several of my cattails at random in the target area, then changing scale and rotation a bit, filling in some area, rinse and repeat.

Check out this video "More Dream Team design" I couldn't find a great video explaining it, but here's a link that should be available for at least a few days. Watch b101 plant his grasses. He, like a lot of us, is using a technique called "spam planting". Placing individual grass by smashing the x(or A) button while holding down the object rotate button (left d-pad) with your index finger and moving the joystick around in all directions. Spam, resize, spam again. Its probably what you're looking for. I think it helps to scream like a madman, but individual results may vary.

Yeah that one will stay hosted for a couple of weeks I think. I never multiplant - you can’t control sizes or placement anywhere near as well. It’s occasionally good with rocks but kills plant meter.

So would you guys spam plant grass for very large areas of fescue? I'm doing the Country Club at Brookline and it's a major part of the course, my plan was to get all the tree planting etc. done and then take a rain check on the object meter and IF it's good was going to spline with 0.1 fill density but layer out with lots of different grasses.
On that video it looked like you were just doing small areas of grasses so was curious of whether it'll take a long time to do massive areas?
Cheers

With the copy-paste function fixed it shouldn't take to long to do. With the spline fill its just like multiplanting. You can't resize objects, and it takes more meter (seemingly). I'd plant the closer areas like you saw in the video. Then copy/paste the work you just did and work your way outward, filling as sparse or dense as you'd like.

I'm new, but I create an area that looks good, multi select (area) and rotate that and paste next to - you can then grab an area from that larger swath, rotate and paste - eventually you can fill in mass areas
I'm paying closer attentions around corners, greens, tees.
I watched that video, does that work better with the mouse? I seem to get a short delay after each plant with controller, hard to spam like that...

The key is to keep pressing the x button rapidly ("mashing" might have been a little vague). As soon as you stop it will plant all the objects at once. It saves time because you only have to wait the couple seconds for each patch of grass as opposed to each individual piece.

I just recorded a quick tutorial on grass planting during my last design stream. It is mostly the technique the obmar described. Might not be exactly what you are trying to do Classy but you can spam plant at a fixed level which is great for water planting.

Good thinking, one think about splining is that you can get a pretty good straight line but I suppose if you made a square box of grasses on a grass farm you could then copy and paste pretty straight lines. Thanks for the advice

You can spam plant a lot of grass as long as you don't have a ton of other plants. Best way is to increase the size and go to town. Just be weary of where you plant it because the game does not auto align the bottoms, so you can get floating grass on hills.

What a calming voice you have! Thanks for putting that here. Lots of guys (myself included for a while) confused spam planting with multi-planting.
