Hello Staff,
I've been involved recently in discussions about the Pro level tours and difficulty. I understand that tgctours is trying their best to respond to players frustration with what they consider ultra low scores. My official stance on scores is that if I am in a tour where the scores at the top are really low it's not the scores being really low it is my inability to reach that score. Scores are just a benchmark. You could set those to eleven and it shouldn't really make a difference. Unfortunately it does make a difference to some. I know that tgctours is weighing in all factors to try and artificially create more difficult conditions such as the recent experiment with very Firm and Fast settings for fairways and greens.
Now I do not play the Pro tours so it makes little difference to me, aside from the fact that the developmental tours will be affected some by whatever direction the Top Tours take. I also realize that the anticipated wind fix from HB will do much to alleviate this problem.
My question here is: What do you top players and most importantly the tgctours staff want their top tier tours to look like? For instance take the latest tour for the PGA, Bison Run. Why would you ask your course designer to provide 4 pin settings and not vary the conditions and lighting as well. I'm sure most designers would be delighted to work with the tgctours staff to develop tours with some very nice variation from round to round (when we get wind control the Tour Creator can work in tandem to set all of these varying conditions) with differing green speeds, different lighting conditions, different fairway firmness and different pin/tee box settings and sets.
In other words I think it is a mistake to focus on Firm and Fast as a short term solution. Just be patient and wait for the updates to take your tours to the next level by varying these conditions from round to round. All that being said I hope you do not mind perspective from a player that never really intends on playing in the Top Tours but still wants to see tgctours be the premier place for TGC players.
I probably should have come here first but I didn't. I hope that clears up any misunderstanding with my post with the poll in it.
Thanks for all you do,
-Mike
