Hi guys, I have some beginner questions I haven't seen covered in the CrazyCanuck or B101 tutorials (or those I've watched, anyway). Hopefully this is the right forum.
I'm making a course (RCR) on the tropical theme. How do I get water to meet the rough without a patch of bare / sandy ground around it? (Or the tiniest sliver of bare ground.) Is there any way to turn that sandy ground to a brown mud-type texture?
Next, how do I make that kind of bare / sandy ground without using water? I want the parts of the plot not on the golf course to not be covered in heavy rough. Just to be bare, rocky / sandy ground. None of the extra surfaces seem to fit the bill. Is there any waste area option?
Bonus question: Which tree would you use to approximate a casuarina? I can't see any that really suit.
Thanks

Have you buried a tree underground yet and seen what happens to the texture?

First off I’d recommend you use delta instead of tropical as this works better in delta.
The areas you want to be bare soil, find a large tree or bush, enlarge it and lower it right down into the ground so it is just beneath the surface, then plant it - you should notice a change, keep doing it till you get the right look. Works better in Delta.
You called also try the Steppe theme which can be an island too but naturally is barren wasteland that you can paint rough over and is effectively already waste area as a plot.
As for the water, if this is for an island, your best best is to get rid of the water line by laying another water panel above the previous one. You might need to raise the entire plot up to get rid of the naturally occurring water table to do this

The course is in the Caribbean so tropical seemed like the natural choice, but sinking a tree appears to do nothing in this theme. I hadn't thought about switching theme.

You can use palm trees everywhere now so why not use delta and remove auto generated trees

Definitely use delta for this like Pat said. The sunken tree effect is awesome on this theme and you'll get your nice sandy texture doing that. I think being able to use all objects in all themes is pretty much going to make Tropical obsolete.
