Working on recreating my home course with lidar. Have it pretty much done but really struggling to find the right combo to create thick dense trees. Have tried sinking large trees down, making very large bushes and hiding them behind to create the thick dark look. Anyone have any tips? I have converted over to pga2k21 and have access to all plants trees etc now. Any tips / tricks would be greatly appreciated!

That is the trick I usually use
A couple layers of trees, not like lined up side by side perfectly uniformed but staggered enough to leave some space, then using very large dark bushes sunken into the ground following the terrain giving a sense of depth to the surroundings and making it look much more dense than it actually is..Not only behind the rows of trees but in between trees as well to give a good undergrowth look. I think you have the right thought process, just fiddle with that style until you get it the way you want and there you'll have it
Good luck
Terry

I'm with Terry. A layer or three of trees nicely spread out and in various sizes, then resize the bushes til they're huge and then put them behind those. Sink them a bit so you can't see the ground through the bottom. It's what I did on The Waterway Club (now available BTW )

What Terry said. For my RCR of a wooded course, I spent forever planting trees all over the place, and it still looked empty, but as soon as I added massive bushes around the perimeter of the trees, everything looked so much better.

Wanna hear something weird? In 19 I published a Lidar Purgatory..... Due to the file size I could only plant around the exterior of the course about two rows of trees before the plant meter completely filled up (could not plant another single item) so on overheads completely barren exterior that I HATE Anyway I brought it into 2k21 and the plant meter was at 60% the file size was only at 6% so I filled up the exterior of the course with trees and made the plot full with zero issues... I also changed the rough color to match all the long grasses I had planted, and tried to give it a burned out kind of late summer look (But alas I am colorblind so the damn thing may be orange) Anyway, found that very interesting considering it was a Lidar course and I was able to complete the planting like I wanted too in the beginning
would be interested to see/hear if any of the other lidar courses and or creators were able to properly plant like they want AFTER porting into the new version
carry on

It seems as though each course varies on how taxing they are on the new 2K21 meter, Samurai was full meter in 2019 and in 2K21 it’s 96% but I’ve seen that some other courses that also have been full are porting less again and some others by varying amounts of more or less, would be good to get a determining factor. Definitely some assets are more taxing than others like running water and buildings though seem to be big meter fillers in 2K21.
Something I only found out late in the piece in 2019 however was that I too would fill up the interior of my courses as needed too before starting to fill in the surrounding landscape and a PGA National for example is wide open outside of the course which I hate. Anyways, I found that even with a full meter if you turn the autogen trees up to full (even if prior they are on zero) that this didn’t affect the meter and would generate accordingly and fill up the plot, i then deleted all autogen trees from inside the playing boundary to preserve my look yet still keep the exterior filled, hope this trick works in 2K21! I used this trick on Samurai and like I mentioned it ported over fine with space to spare.

Makes sense Rod ... Be interesting to see other lidar creators thoughts as well... I only had the full that was fully pegged in 19 as far as meter...
Maybe I got lucky on this particular one though... appreciate the response(s)

Noticed something similar Terry. All of the courses I’ve ported seem to have a lower percentage (it seems to me as the plant meter itself is bigger), but I noticed an especially big change on my LiDAR course. It started at around 79% and one click updated it, dropping to 55ish%. Definitely going to be useful if that’s the case for all courses.

Way back I had created a lidar file from where I live in NC around my house...
I just brought the file into the designer and without a single plant or anything it was over 60% on the object meter.. I took the small fuzzy brush and single clicked on flatten on one tiny spot and the meter went down to .1%
Maybe there is hope of making smaller Lidar file sizes...

Terry, I noticed exactly the same thing with my Austin Country Club. Objects were maxed out in 2019 but now at just over 66% in 2K21.

I noticed when I changed the theme of the course I ported over is when it gave me all of the extra object meter. I think that may be the loophole. It moves object meter to memory meter
