My second course and my first Jerry Shields original design is almost complete! (and ready to be submitted for the Challenge Circuit Championship)
On the surface it may look like your typical 7000 yard, Par 72 course, but this is only the average of extremes.
Storm King boasts six Par 3's, six Par 4's and six Par 5's.
Very little earth was moved in this custom creation - allowing the flow of the land dictate the course design. There are four Par 5's over 600 yards - yet only two Par 5's on the course require 3 shots to reach the green. Reachable Par 4's are also sprinkled across the routing.
My background as a golf course superintendent demands me to only build courses that could exist in the real world - so no unrealistic gimmicks here.
Each time you play the course you will learn new strategies that can be applied the next time you play. Landing areas provide multiple options.
Make the right decisions and you may find yourself standing over an eagle putt more than once. Bad decision could see you needing three putts to save that par.
Intrigued? So am I. I've played dozens of test rounds and I continue to find new strategies and options.
Scoring opportunities exist if you can avoid poor shot placement. A front nine score of +7 turned into a final score of 72 when my risks turned into awards on the back 9.
Watch for the release of Storm King Golf Resort in the days ahead.
