*Turn green and terrain firmness to "FIRM"* Ready to ditch the crowd noise of championship golf and get away from country club prices? Just take the dusty backroads off highway 35, west of Askov, Minnesota, to find a truly intimate and dynamic golf experience known as Old Red's Sandstone Range. Back in the early 1970's, my great-uncle, Robert "Red" Ptaszynski, purchased a 40 acre plot of land in a rural part of eastern Minnesota. At first, he had no idea what to do with the property, he just bought it on a whim as a way to escape his nagging German wife, Brunhilda. For years, Red would just go away for a weekend at a time and take long peaceful walks around his plot. Eventually, Brunhilda left Red and the large plot of land began to feel as empty as his poor old heart. I knew my old great-uncle needed something positive in his life, so I proposed the idea to turn his property into a golf course. I think back on his response fondly; "Okay, but I don't want some hillbilly piece of sh** putt-putt course. You give me a g**d*** golf course you little turd." And so I said "Yes sir," and got to work. Sadly, Old Red died before its completion. He wasn't much of a golf fan anyway. So, I thought it would be nice to open this course up to my friends here at TGC Tours to enjoy while giving tribute to the legend that was Red Ptaszynski.
Built on nearly 30 acres (450 yards x 320 yards) of the 40 acre property, I present Old Red's Sandstone Range. A full 18-hole par 72 course with 12 par 4s, 3 par 3s, and 3 par 5s. The fairways intertwine heavily on this course providing unique perspectives of the course and property. Come and enjoy a secluded golf experience and don't forget to pour a little beer into the gravel off the first tee for Old Red.
(Unfortunately, I was not able to multi-pin this course due to the overlapping waypoints)

Got a quick round in. Very good execution of a par 72 in this space, and only allowing a couple "cheat" paths to the pins. I played terribly and great. I finished even par, but had back-to-back eagles (11 & 12) at one point in the round. Overall, nice job sir! Just remember this... Old Red's hatred for you as a person... came from a place of love for you... as a turd.

I had so much fun looking for the shortcuts!
Man, this is more than just a novelty course. This is a high level design with an absolutely gorgeous aesthetic!
Beats the pants off the cutesy little course I'm working on. lol.
Great job!!!!

I wanted the actual routing to be used as much as possible but still leave a few tough opportunities to find shortcuts. Thanks for playing!

That was a lot of fun. Nice work on the routing. I enjoyed trying to find alternate paths to each hole. Very well done!

That was a blast to play this morning. 10 birdies, 3 bogies and 5 pars and I can't wait to give it another go with firm settings. Great work!

Thanks for the plays guys. Really glad that this is playing as a fun course as that was the intent. Tons of options to create interesting shots, lots of shaping around trees if you were inclined to do so. I just really wish I could have multi-pinned it. Oh well.

Even though it was tough to concentrate with the shouts of FORE LEFT! ringing in my ears every 5 secs, this was a fun/cool little track and I managed a -9 (or was it 10....i cant remember).
Old Red would be proud......probably.

Just played this and it was a lot of fun. Everything was going nicely scoring wise and was cruising at -9 through 13 only to hit the pin of another hole off the 14th tee and go backwards into the sh%$. No chance in hell I could have done that if I tried Anyway, had a couple of eagles and plenty of birdies so it was a good afternoon at Old Red's. Well done. I look forward to playing some other backyard designs too now.
