I have just published Old Town Golf Club as Old Town GC beta. In the heart of Winston-Salem NC, home course of Wake Forest University right next door was designed by Perry Maxwell in 1939. Perry Maxwell was an American golf course architect, a founding member of the American Society of Golf Course Architects and designed Colonial CC, Prairie Dunes and Southern Hills (Championship) and many others. He also did reworking of the greens at Augusta National and Pine Valley. Famous architects Bill Coore and Bob Crenshaw totally redid the bunkering on Old Town in 2013. Old Town is listed as #29 in the USA on the "Top 100 golf courses" website, and is also on other golf course top lists. It is a 6815 yard Par 70 with lots of elevation changes and side-hill lies. The greens are small by todays standards but they are not easy by any means. This WIP is a Lidar recreation, the data seemed to be very good so I hope you do not find too many artifacts. The planting is not complete, nor are some of the ambience around the course, so do not judge by that please. Here are the usual pictures This course may not be every ones cup-of-tea, but I certainly found it interesting and enjoyable to play, especially if you enjoy side-hill lies lol. Please give it a trial run and as always welcome any feedback either positive or constructive.

Mike, this looks good. Might get a chance to take a run at it this weekend. Still need to get my rounds in for the Dirtbags this week and I’m working diligently to try to finish Austin Country Club so I probably won’t get to play it sooner. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed every course that you’ve done and am looking forward to this one.

Looks good. Have thought about tackling this course myself a few times, one of my favorites from my former hometown. Just a suggestion, but I think a more browned-out look if you play with the textures could really pop here, as the course often gets super baked out and fiery in the summer. I will look forward to playing this one, regardless.

I took a look at the Google Earth Satellite views back through time, and except for that 2013-2014 period when Coore and Crenshaw were redoing the bunkering the playing surfaces (greens, fairways, lt. rough, were pretty green in the Summer. The heavy rough was browner however, so I have gone and switched the H rough texture for something browner (not the pure browns, they did not look real to me). Thanks for the suggestion.

This course has my eye ... Was actually using it as a basis of inspiration for last year's CC contest course before switching gears going more of the Pinehurst-y route.

Just played this and loved it so much. Awesome course and awesome job with the LiDAR. Here’s just some suggestions I had while I was playing the course:
In general, plant more trees around the course, especially in the places where clumps of trees are growing on the sides of hills or in between fairways. Also make sure we can’t see any bare ground looking outside of the course from the tee or green. Just make the whole thing feel more secluded with more trees and houses surrounding the border of the course.
In addition, I think the cart paths could be thinned out... in many places they are bold and gaudy and they stick out too much.
Just a few specifics on some holes:
Hole 2- This is just me being OCD but on the right side of the green the light rough spline does this weird zig zag thing with the path going up to the next tee... just round that out and make it look natural.
Hole 5- Add a bit more trees right next to the tee box on the left... it looks a bit more secluded and enclosed up there on google earth.
Hole 6- This is where I feel the course needs more trees surrounding it. From the tee you can see the exposed bare hills outside the course on the other side... fill that space in (as much as you can given the object meter).
Other than that the course is fantastic. The mapping and Lidar are all really good and accurate. You truly did an awesome job here. Thanks for working on this I’m excited for the final product!

Just make the whole thing feel more secluded with more trees and houses surrounding the border of the course. I did not put all the structures and plantings in the beta, I was just mainly looking for playability. In addition, I think the cart paths could be thinned out... in many places they are bold and gaudy and they stick out too much. In all cases those were the cart paths that are actually on the course. The splines are at 2M, if you go any narrower they paths start to get wavy. I believe we had this same discussion about Greenbrier Old White.Just a few specifics on some holes: Hole 2- This is just me being OCD but on the right side of the green the light rough spline does this weird zig zag thing with the path going up to the next tee... just round that out and make it look natural. I will look at itHole 5- Add a bit more trees right next to the tee box on the left... it looks a bit more secluded and enclosed up there on google earth. All the trees on the actual plot were brought down with the Lidar data, so if they look sparse it is because each tree is not as thickly leafed as IRL. I know Google Earth makes it look like an impenetrable jungle.Hole 6- This is where I feel the course needs more trees surrounding it. From the tee you can see the exposed bare hills outside the course on the other side... fill that space in (as much as you can given the object meter). Other than that the course is fantastic. Thanks as usual for playing and advising Scoll, I will make some adjustments
