I am trying out a new concept with this design. I've noticed in playing tournaments that the tee boxes are always static, and the majors usually only have one set of tees. So I tried playing around with the concept of having a new hole and tee location for each round to bring in a different perspective and strategy every time, with strategy being the main emphasis. I wanted most shots to require some thought and planning, with safe and risky routes to allow for those falling behind an opportunity to gain ground if they can execute the tough shots. The hole and tee locations have been measured so that yardage of each 18 hole round from tee to hole is very similar, but each individual hole can vary a good amount in the 4 rounds. The conditions for each round are to be played as follows:
1. Green tees - location 1 - High NE wind
2. Blue tees - location 2 - Very High NW wind
3. White tees - location 3 - High W wind
4. Black tees - location 4 - High N wind
It does play long at around 7550, and I am having a hard time judging the difficulty of the course. It's not overly narrow, but there is still plenty of trouble to get into. Greens require fairly precise shots in the right spot to make birdies, with many greens having large tiers and many slopes. It is meant to be on the harder side as I am going for that major championship feel, and while I did make plenty of birdies I also made almost as many bogies and some doubles. As a CC-B I finished a total of 6 under playing 4 rounds in the above conditions. Give it a try, let me know how it goes and all critiques and feedback are welcome! Search for STCBeta3 as seen in the below.
So far I have just finished the routing and major hole components, with some test planting to get the feel of the look I'm going for. Next step is to go back through hole by hole to refine some of the sculpting and do the final planting, barring any redesign work needed based on feedback.
