Whilst my RCR work continues with Stoke Park, I decided I needed to use my creative side and to pay homage to the UK's brilliant coastline.
Initially I decided to pull LiDAR from a place called Lindisfarne (on Holy Island, a precipice on the coastline) on the Newcastle / Scottish border with incredible dunes and a famous castle, it's protected land so you would never be allowed to build a golf course there which is what made it appealing!
Unfortunately the whole island was too large to import into the game plus the majority of the island is farm land aside from the dunes on the north edge.
I decided instead to import only the dunes area and to make an entirely fictional course with a back story to match.
I'm going for a really wild feel to this, slightly unkept in places and unorthodox in others.
The terrain just screams out to have a golf course on it.
I messed around with a couple of themes until settling on delta as I will not be using any trees and the soil looks incredible (much better than highlands, please do a links theme next game please HB/2K....)
Anyway, I've laid out the course and completed a few holes roughly, the numbering of the layout will change before I release a beta but I wanted to give you all a peak at the land;
This is one of the peninsula's where a decrepit Monastery from the 11th Century will feature alongside some goats of course!
Here's one of the tee shots on the blind par 5
The fairway on the 3rd hole;
The tee shot on the 5th
Here's the treacherous par 3 17th perched on top of the cliffs with a bail out area right for the faint hearted. There will be no fence as health and safety does not exist on this nomadic land.
Here's the risk and reward par 5th 9th or 18th. This will be a split fairway with the lower area near the sea being the aggressive line that enables an iron to the green whilst the other route is normally a 3 shotter, can't wait to get this one laid down!
Here's the par 4 9th or 18th, again like a lot of holes this will have a separate fairway and green complexes that can't be reached by a cart! I'll bring the sea a little close to the action on this one;
Another of the signature holes, this will be a driveable par 4 that requires the wind to be playing ball to attempt and audacious carry across Judas bay. alternatively a 5 iron out to the right leaves a wedge to the green;
I don't think this will take me as long as an RCR to finish as there will be literally no planting required aside from the long grass which I can spam the F out of! the only other elements will be a few old houses, maybe a few stone walls made out of individual rocks and of course the islands famous monastery and goats.
This project feels like it could be epic so will make sure I don't rush it and will invite the experts on here to help me with the beta to make sure I do it justice!
