Not sure if its the same course i am sure saw Donald Ross at french lick and Pete Dye at french link the other day under search but it seems someone is releasing LIDAR courses by the day,so not sure of the standard of them The courses you saw are made by another designer, who creates a lot of lidar courses, mainly from Minnesota. Some is good, some not so much, but the main problem is that almost every course he releases, has only one set of pins. But honestly I have still no checked these French Lick versions. Also you're right, he released almost a dozen of courses in slightly more than a pair of weeks, so is really hard to follow his footsteps.

The Minnesota guy never really 'finishes' anything, just does 'spline, import, publish' LiDAR courses and it shows.

Ezzino posted about that earlier as well. I will have to check it out. It has be the same courses though; there are only 3 courses in French Lick.

Ezzino posted about this earlier as well. I just played the Ross Course and there's no doubt that it's the same course. It's absolutely terrible quality. Someone obviously just took the OSM and the lidar, planted some random grass and published it. I can't begin to tell you all the things wrong with it. Frankly it's a little maddening for someone to do this when I meticulously mapped this course out in great detail. Just plain frustrating.

Why is frustrating, mate? The whole thing don't touch you or your work. At least is just something a bit sad but, after all, as community we are always been aware that one of the risks..the "dark side" of the lidar, has always been that it could be a factory of cheap courses, for designers not enough committed with a certain standard of quality..and patience etc. This is an example, but for absurd, is also a pretty good chance to show exactly what they are the differences between a course just created in a bunch of hours..and the same course, but with the proper work behind. Keep working on Austin. The time to offer to the community a proper version of the Ross course then will come. And the community will recognize the difference.

It's frustrating from the standpoint that I spent so much time mapping this course so that an accurate recreation of one of my favorite all-time golf courses can be made to share with the community and someone just created a half-ass version of it because they're either too lazy or too inept to do a decent job with it. I shouldn't be sentimental about it but it's close to where I grew up, I played it as a junior golfer and got to play it again this summer as an adult. Trust me, I would like nothing better than for someone to create a stellar version of this course. I know there are many designers out there that are much better than I am who could take this course and make it shine.

I think i understand Well..you can control only what you can do..and how to do it..so at least the only thing to do now is to give your best on Austin first..then on French Lick..taking all the amount of time you need to make some justice and to realize it beautiful as you imagine it. And..don't worry about the amount of better designers etcetera. For sure you don't suffer for lack of skills. Anyway..today I updated a bit the list (I suffer a severe lack of time in these days, sadly. And for the next two weeks it will be probably worst) and I reported some other work of the guy. And doing so i realized he made almost 20 courses in more or less 3 weeks. A lot in Arizona now, but also Valhalla and the National Golf Links. Almost every course with just one set of pin. The sad part is that I played some course made by him, some time ago. Is not a bad designer, cause if he wants, he can do a pretty good work. But these last courses seems just made with too much rush. There are courses with the total par wrong for publishing issues not fixed, minimal detailing. And having just one tee and one pins, actually almost all these courses are also not playable in any tournament. Is a shame. Really.

There was a lidar version of the National already made, I played it 2 months ago more or less. Is not so bad, maybe just a bit rough, but if Petty will do it, I can just start to lick my moustaches, cause it will be awesome and this course is a charming lovely one, for me.

I played the NGLA once and agree it's not too bad, but if Petty is doing it you know it's going to be great. The man is amazing. I love that golf course as well.
Speaking of Austin CC, I should be posting a couple of pics soon.
