Been using the original TGC ever since it came out, and back in 2014 there were always half finished courses that were published. I thought that 5 years later that would have been improved. But looking at courses available and sometimes in the top 50 there are some courses that basically look half done. Not much smoothing done ,traps not really complete. Even on top courses, sometime the incorrect club is chosen off the tee, choosing say a 5 iron instead of a driver or 3 wood, although maybe thats a setting. I know TGC rates the courses and has always done a great job, but HB sometimes a wonder about. I'm trying to get back into it after a long absence(medical and other things). BTW glad to see Eastward Ho might soon be published. I worked on that for almost a year before getting sidelined, and had almost 12 holes completely done. Its a great course and very local to me.

Top Rated playlists aren't a good place to search. Sometimes if you sort by weekly / monthly you'll get better results but it's not guaranteed. Use HCP Rated instead if you're looking for better results, as most courses on that filter tend to be pretty good. Or alternatively, pick course names from these forums or the course database of approved courses over at the 'regular' tgctours.com.
Club selection off the tee has to do with a few different factors. First, if you play a more forward tee it might unnecessarily suggest you club down because of where the waypoints for the hole were placed within the designer. Second, if it would give you driver but the target / waypoint line puts you in a spot that is not on the fairway, it will club down for you until it 'finds' fairway. That's just something with the way designer works. Usually we try to place waypoints accordingly but also keep in mind that waypoint placement dictates how the hole flyovers look, so depending on your priorities it can b e a fine balancing act.
What definitely has NOT changed since TGC1 is that anyone can put out a 'course' in 5 minutes. It may be a crappy autogen course but it is still technically a a golf course. the game itself does not judge how good a course is, and even the rangering for tour events / course database submission over here at TGCTours is highly subjective at times, and that's usually not intentional either.
I would've finished that one if not for the data issues I have heard about. Eastward Ho looks like / must be an incredible course. Chances are if that course is local, so is Cape Cod National? Have you played that one IRL? I just finished up Black Rock Country Club, another Brian Silva course, and was thinking about picking another of his at some point in the future, either that, Renaissance north of Baahston, or Black Creek Club.

It's a terrible filter option, it doesn't represent the best courses in the game tbh
