The optimal shot off the tee on hole three for most pins is just a 3 or 4 iron played from left to right so that it hugs that right fairway extension. That’s going to leave the shortest/easiest second shot. The visual illusion on this hole (and part of the genius of it) is that it appears like firing a driver down the left is a risk/reward shot, when in reality there is no reward because the further you hit it off the tee, the further you are from the green. That’s precisely why I connected this fairway to the fifth fairway. The only exception is the far right pin position, which has a much better angle to it from left of the fairway bunker, even though you’ll add a few yards to the approach shot. 😉 The Mantis rewards players who plan their strategy from green to tee. Hope that helps. It makes sense. I laid back on a good number of holes, namely the par 5’s. I didn’t go for a single par 5 in two and most of them I hit 2W or less off the tee. I’d like to think I found most of the strategic shots, hole 3 was the one that was eluding me but I hadn’t dropped that many clubs down so I didn’t see it.

Hi guys, I’m sorry you had a bad experience on hole 7, that’s never my intention. It’s always a bummer to see part of the course ruin somebody’s round or tournament. I agree the OB on this design can be of significant impact, because it is set up for major championship events. But again, I apologize for the bad memories. From a design standpoint, the OB is staked along an exterior boundary of the course, and the architecture of the hole is set up for a risk/reward scenario. Overall, this is not a terribly uncommon structure for a golf hole. I did mark the OB all the way up to the tee with stakes just 15 yards apart in the hopes it would be seen from the tee even if players don’t check the overhead. It’s quite a short par five, so it does not require you to challenge that left side if you’d rather not. But no doubt, an ultra-aggressive line off the tee (as you described) could get a bit unfortunate if the ball doesn’t clear. However, when it does, you often have just a long iron into the green and a legitimate chance at eagle. I don’t write that part to be defensive, but only to explain my design choices relative to that hole. The course is definitely set up with Tour Championship difficulty, but I hope it didn’t wreck your day. 😕 I am genuinely sorry that happened to you guys. Okay but if you end up in the trees it's already a difficult shot. If you even have a shot. So why make that punishment even higher. I mean it's fine I'm not angry but I just don't understand it that's all.

I was surprised that there was a cut for this tournament for as little of players that are in it. But anyways I'm at -12 after two and for right now that is looking like it's the cutline barely hanging on....lol. Good Luck everyone!!!

Having only played a couple practice rounds so far, IMO the course is a great choice for the Tour Championship. When I loaded it up for the first time, I couldn't help but laugh at how narrow the first fairway was. But then, I benefited from the contouring and that really makes all the difference. I did think I was having deja vu with two holes (maybe 5 and 15?). Both holes had fairways split by water at an angle, and uphill approaches? Maybe I'm crazy. It would have also been nice to have one shorter par 4, but I blame HB for this more than the designer since we can't use different tees in different rounds. You could have had a lot of fun setting this place up differently for four rounds if that was the case. As it stands, still a great course and challenge. But since it is playing so long, I might heed some of these comments and bring a 1 iron to replace the gap wedge...
Think it will be tough to go much lower than -30 overall, especially if Dan is merciless with the conditions again. Already a pretty damn good pace being set though.
Maybe I'll stream my rounds again. Or at least upload them after they've been played. Will try and do that more regularly next season, might breathe some more life into the game!

Can someone refuse a promotion to Euro Tour if they finish inside the top 15? Asking for a friend. 😂

Missed cut for me. Too bad after playing well the last few weeks but just couldn't get anything to fall. GL to everyone left to play.

Any of y’all know this Japanese guy that just popped up a few months ago on Web ?? So DG- in full disclosure, for the past few months I have 2 "go to" Ghosts. Mr Japanese guy and you. Since we both play in Casuals Society CGE and Web- and based on +/- 50 rounds with your ghost- we've split 50% of those rounds. Beating you 50% of the time has been better then getting obliterated consistently by the PGA guys. Count me in as surprised that there was a cut this week. I thought we all played all 4 rounds and Top 15 made Euro. I'm going to have crowbar my rounds in around work trips this week.

Can someone refuse a promotion to Euro Tour if they finish inside the top 15? Asking for a friend. 😂 Have had the same thought...on one hand the last half of the Web season has been very good for me and I would like to see if I can hang on Euro...then there’s the fact that this is probably the best tour for me. I can compete for top 10 but not consistent enough to win so why move up?
