The problem is this slow backswing to reduce distance I don't like it as it is totally unrealistic. Especially in the short game which is all about partial swings and feel for distance. I am not a fan of it in the long game either to be honest. This is something I think we need to put to a vote but I will add I do think we should all be playing the game the same way and as realisticly as possible. The chipping out of bunkers should be prohibited, we are trying to simulate professional tour golf and chipping out of bunkers would never be seen on top golf course. I have never used a loft box or chipped out of bunkers on TGC2 or 2019 and my bunker play is one of the strong parts of my game. With practice it's possible to get up and down from any distance out of bunkers. I think this discussion has shown that this community want to play as realistic as possible.

How can you make tempo or partial swings against the USE rules? Tempo variations just happen sometimes, and partials (95%, 90%, etc) is the only way to make the game like real golf, you like feathering a 5 iron or stepping on a wedge.
Art, I think he's talking about the purposeful slowing down of tempo, like pausing unnecessarily at the top of your swing, to make the distance shorter.
I don't think they mean the tempo variations that just happen because we are bad golfers. And partial swings aren't against the rules, I think they are what is actually encouraged, instead of using tempo to do the distance.

I have played with no flag marker for a while now. Really adds to the immersion. You just have to use the putter camera more to get a aiming point. After a while it just becomes muscle memory and it does not take that long.
I wonder how many of you guys use the feedback still? That really changes the game when you turn it off. So much better without it.
Keep meaning to play but I just do not have enough time to play 3 societies.

Hate to be 'that person' - but if you are looking for realism, than using the putter camera to elevate yourself 60ft into the air to even be able to spot your target is the absolute definition of unrealistic.......and thus the whole argument for forcing it to be moved to the HUD is ridiculous.

You can simulate walking up the fairway by switching to your putter and pushing down on the right thumbstick twice, then pull back on the left thumbstick (Xbox).. This gives you a little better view to pick out land marks to shoot for. I just found out about this last week. It only helps if you don't have a sight line to the hole. This would allow us to remove the flag marker, and put our distances in the HUD. Hammers1man try that out when you test courses and see if it is feasible to use. Also it might be a good idea to use the Declare ball unplayable Function , haven't used this in a while , if the player does not know the whereabouts of the green direction. HB quote. « Reply #3 on: January 10, 2019, 12:15:19 PM » " After declaring unplayable pressing RB (XB1), R1 (PS4) or Z (PC) should return you to the location you previously hit from. " Logged Game Designer I have been wanting to try the " Switch to Putter view " Just did not know how to do it. Great Idea.
I would not want to declare unplayable simply because I couldn't find the green. That puts you back at your original point. 9 times out of 10, when I don't know where it is, because the game pointed me back towards the fairway instead of the green, when I do spin around and find the marker, I realize that I do have a perfectly good and legal shot available. Even in this weeks round, I had this situation. Don't remember what hole, but I was way off on a very slow shot, in heavy rough behind trees. had no idea where I was. I kept spinning and until the marker showed up, and found that the game was pointing me well over 90 degrees the opposite direction. But when I spun around and found the green with the marker, I had a clear shot, and I used a long iron, and made the green in regulation from there. Woulda been a total shame to declare unplayable.
EDIT: this shot in question WAS a blind shot. it was over a mound, but clear otherwise. I'd have never seen the green just spinning around, without the marker.
I think I'm with Art Vandelay on that one. To me the marker is nothing more than a caddy saying, 'oh, its over there, and pointing to it.'

Disagree. You cannot zoom in and it gives what Pros would have IRL by either a course map, walking up from your ball to take a look or from course knowledge. Hitting it blind off the tee or on approach shots is totally unrealistic in competitive golf. If the overhead was better than I would just use that. But it sucks so it is what it is.

There used to be an option on PC to move the camara about by pressing one of the function keys and moving the arrow keys to move around slowly like real life walking. I didn't use it on TST because it wasn't available on the consoles.

Also how many use the swing feedback? Having that on in a ultra sim league is very unrealistic. Having instant feedback for every swing and on practice swings is not possible in real golf unless you are on the range.
Certainly more of an assit than the putting camera IMOP.

Doyley said this season it's still there (I assume its the F10 key as that is the camera key in the designer) - I've never used it when playing though. It's only on PC so Doyley said.
Someone suggested that the TGCT pro tours got rid of scout cam - and that discrepancy between PC and console was the main reason why it wasn't implemented.

Just tested it, it used to move slower in the other games. It is something that could be used if all systems had it without elevating the camera with it. Just being able to to walk forward 50 yards to get a better view of a blind approach shot. Great option to check out the course on practise rounds and take some great screenshots of holes.

Finished first round on Baltusrol - +6 playing with Hammers. I had a terrible first 8, +6 on those holes. (only bogies, no double) - too many missed putts as usual - too many three putts.
Hammers, I have practiced with the chips, and my problem is that on the partials I get a fast/very fast downswing (resulting in too long chip shots) - I manage to avoid this mostly on the flops and pitches, but somewhat struggle on the chip shots - but it is doable with practice.

Do you use a mouse? , I don't get tempo problems with partial chip shots.

No, I have an xbox360 controller. It is just a matter of practice, I think I just push too hard to stop the animation at the right time - I need to ease that motion. It's easier than getting fade on full shots - I manage to control a fast/very fast for a draw/hook at some level (even though misses here as well is not uncommon), but a slow downswing is hard for me.

First hit with Masters clubs in 2 weeks, and that was on PC - is NOT going great. +6 thru 7, might have had one or two perfect perfects but they certainly haven’t made up for the very fasts, very slows etc.
Walking away, will get the 4 rounds done on time but it’s too hard for a boozy Friday afternoon, that’s for sure lol.
Edit - Boozy enough I only just realised it’s Thursday lol
